Reporting to the VP of New Product Engineering, this role encompasses deep technical leadership alongside people management, program planning, and product delivery. You will own the full design lifecycle for a growing portfolio of custom avionics hardware spanning high-performance processing, I/O interfaces, and mixed-signal electronics. The successful candidate will bring a strong technical vision for scalable, high-reliability embedded compute architectures, a relentless focus on driving down size, weight, power, and cost (SWaPC), and the proactive mindset to continuously improve design processes and toolchains as the team and product line scale.ResponsibilitiesOwn the technical direction for spacecraft digital and mixed-signal hardware, including flight computers, payload compute platforms, and interface electronicsLead, mentor, and grow a team of electrical engineers across the full PCB and digital systems development lifecycleOversee end-to-end hardware development: requirements definition, schematic capture, board layout, component selection, bring-up, integration, and qualification testingSet and enforce design standards, design review processes, and configuration management practices across all digital hardware programsLead technical trade studies to evaluate architectures, components, and development approaches with a focus on performance, SWaPC, reliability, and costDrive a forward-looking product vision for scalable avionics computing solutions that can grow with True Anomaly's spacecraft programsChampion proactive process improvement across the design-to-delivery workflow, identifying and eliminating inefficiencies as the team scalesManage schedules, budgets, staffing, and technical risk across multiple concurrent hardware development programsCollaborate with embedded software, FPGA, cybersecurity, systems engineering, and test teams to ensure seamless integration of digital hardware into the spacecraft, including the implementation of a hardware root of trust across the avionics stackDrive compliance with applicable aerospace and defense standards and lead design reviews with internal stakeholders and customersCommunicate product development status and issues with leadership and stakeholdersQualificationsBachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field (Master's preferred)10+ years of professional experience designing, testing, and troubleshooting complex digital and mixed-signal PCB designs for aerospace, defense, or high-reliability applicationsDemonstrated experience leading an electrical engineering team focused on digital systems designDeep proficiency in schematic capture and PCB layout tools (Altium Designer or equivalent)Strong familiarity with common processor, FPGA, SoC, and SoM architectures and their application in embedded compute platformsExperience with high-speed digital interfaces including PCIe, Ethernet, SpaceWire, CAN, SPI, I2C, UART, and USBExpertise in signal integrity, power integrity, and design for EMI/EMCDemonstrated ability to deliver complex hardware on schedule in a resource-constrained environmentPreferred Skills and ExperienceExperience with radiation effects on digital electronics and mitigation strategies for space applicationsUnderstanding and familiarity with applicable aerospace standards (EEE-INST-002, SMC-S-016, MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-704, MIL-STD-461)Experience with design qualification testing, including thermal, vibration, and EMI/EMC test campaignsExperience designing and implementing hardware security architectures, including hardware root of trust (HRoT), secure boot, and cryptographic key managementHands-on experience with hardware security modules (HSMs), trusted platform modules (TPMs), or equivalent cryptographic security implementations in embedded systemsExperience with hardware bring-up and debug using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, current probes, and automated test equipmentExperience working in a fast-paced, startup environment or a similarly dynamic settingCompensationBase Salary: $190,000-$295,000Equity + Benefits including Health, Dental, Vision, HRA/HSA options, PTO and paid holidays, 401K, Parental LeaveYour actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, location, and experience.Additional requirements include the ability to maintain or obtain TS//SCI clearance, onsite work at our Denver, CO location, and the physical demands of the job, including bending, sitting, lifting, and driving.
