About Bertschi School
Bertschi School, founded in 1975, is a Washington State approved elementary school serving students in grades pre‑kindergarten to fifth. We are an accredited member of the Pacific Northwest Association of Independent Schools (NWAIS) and the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS).
Position General Description
Bertschi School is seeking a progressive educator to lead the school’s drama program beginning in August 2026.
Qualifications
- Experience writing, directing, and producing performances for elementary students
- Experience teaching diverse student populations and partnering with families
- Bachelor’s degree in drama, elementary education, or related field
- Master’s degree and teaching certificate preferred
- Demonstrated effectiveness as a drama teacher with a minimum of two years of experience teaching elementary drama
- Experience in curriculum development and collaborative planning
- In‑depth knowledge of standards and innovative practices in elementary drama education
Responsibilities
- Design and implement Bertschi’s drama curriculum for students in Pre‑kindergarten to fifth grade
- Direct and produce 14 performances per year, one for each class of students
- Develop partnerships and collaborate with the school’s teachers to support interdisciplinary drama curriculum
- Participate fully in the life of the school community
- Commit to continued professional development
- Prepare and order materials for lessons and performances and manage the budget
Compensation and Benefits
Compensation will be commensurate with the candidate’s background and experience and will be competitive with similar positions in the Seattle area independent schools. Bertschi School offers excellent benefits, including medical, dental, life insurance, retirement, and sick/vacation days.
