nThe role - what you'll do
nBarr is seeking an electrical engineer to join our team in our Duluth or Minneapolis, Minnesota, Ann Arbor, Michigan, or Salt Lake City, Utah, locations. In this hybrid role, you will support the Engineering & Design business unit, working with multidisciplinary project teams providing electrical engineering and related technical expertise for industrial processing, power, mining, and fuels facilities. Work will include integrating process, mechanical, and control requirements into comprehensive electrical systems. Tasks will include detailed design to support electrical installations in the power, mining, and hydroelectric sectors. Tasks will also involve design and analysis and include the preparation of plans and specifications, reports, and power and control design from the ground up.
nA successful person in this role will have strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills. They must possess a flexible working style and be willing to occasionally modify their schedule to meet deadlines and client needs. They must be able to work cooperatively in a project team environment that encourages self-initiative and demonstrate effective project organization and management skills.
nYour impact - key responsibilities
nTechnical knowledge: design and analysis will include preparing plans and specifications, writing reports, and developing cost estimations as well as the design of power and controls from the ground up. The work will be related to industrial processing facilities, power plants, mining facilities, and municipal water and wastewater facilities.
nProject management: proposal development including defining work scopes, deliverables, schedules, and budgets. Assist with planning, coordinating, and executing projects. Help ensure project milestones are met and provide regular updates to team members and clients.
nStaff development: support the growth and development of team members.
nCollaboration: build and sustain strong relationships with clients and internal teams. Collaborate across disciplines to align technical approaches with client goals while contributing to a positive, inclusive team culture.
nAbout the opportunity
nHybrid: a hybrid work arrangement can be considered for this position. A hybrid work arrangement refers to splitting time worked between a Barr office and a home office. This position is based out of Barr's Duluth or Minneapolis,Minnesota; Ann Arbor, Michigan; or Salt Lake City, Utah, offices.
nTravel expectation: up to 10-15 percent domestic fieldwork.
nWork environment: ability to work in locations that feature the rough terrain typical of construction sites. Safety training will be provided prior to being given work assignments on these sites. Applicants may be asked to participate in a drug screening program at the request of specific clients. Candidates must be able to perform job duties with or without reasonable accommodation.
nAbout you - required core competencies
nEducation: bachelor's degree in electrical engineering.
nExperience: at least 5 years of related experience working in a design capacity on projects directly related to job responsibilities described above.
nLicenses/certifications: Professional Engineer (PE) certification or ability to obtain within one year.
nSoftware: Microsoft Office.
nDriver's license: possession of a current, valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
nMust be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship from Barr Engineering, now or in the future.
nHelpful additional experience (not required)
n10+ years of related experience.
nExperience with AutoCAD.
nWorking knowledge of codes, standards, laws, and regulations applicable to the project assignments described above
nDemonstrated project organization and management skills.
nExperience with SKM Power Tools or E-Tap software for coordination and arc flash studies.
nClient-relationship and business-development skills.
nExperience with Rockwell Automation/Allen Bradley PLC and HMI programming software.
nExperience with start-up and commissioning of industrial projects.
nCompensation: Anticipated range of $90,000-$115,000 annually. Compensation will vary based on relevant experience, education, skill level, and other compensable factors. Employees in this position are also eligible for a discretionary cash bonus based on team and individual performance. This position is classified as exempt (salaried) under the Fair Labor Standards Act.
