Role Description The Drafter at Sixth Avenue Custom converts client concepts, sketches, and design briefs into detailed technical drawings and production-ready plans for custom furniture, cabinetry, and millwork. Day-to-day responsibilities include creating accurate CAD drawings, preparing shop drawings and cut lists, interpreting architectural plans, and collaborating closely with designers, artisans, and production staff to ensure feasibility and quality. The role also involves updating drawings based on feedback, maintaining organized project documentation, and aligning designs with material specifications and manufacturing processes. This is a full-time, on-site role located in Frederick, MD, working directly with the workshop and design team to support efficient, high-quality production.


Qualifications

  • Candidates should possess strong drafting and CAD skills, with experience producing detailed technical drawings for furniture, cabinetry, millwork, or related fields.
  • Candidates should possess skills in reading and interpreting blueprints, architectural plans, and specifications, translating them into clear shop drawings and layouts.
  • Candidates should possess skills in basic design principles, spatial planning, and material understanding (e.g., wood, metal, hardware components) to support practical, buildable solutions.
  • Candidates should possess skills in documentation and organization, including version control of drawings, project file management, and clear record-keeping for production teams.
  • Candidates should possess skills in communication and collaboration, working effectively with designers, craftspeople, and leadership to clarify requirements and resolve design issues.
  • Relevant qualifications include prior experience in custom woodworking, furniture manufacturing, or architectural millwork; familiarity with industry-standard CAD software (Autodesk AutoCAD, Fusion and Cabinet Vision); and strong attention to detail and quality.
  • Additional beneficial qualifications include an associate degree or technical certification in drafting, design, engineering technology, or a related field, and a demonstrated interest in craftsmanship and custom manufacturing.
