The Office of Sorority and Fraternity Life (OSFL) at IndianaUniversity Bloomington is a foundational pillar of the studentexperience, with a history dating back to 1845. OSFL oversees oneof the nations largest and most influential Greek-lettercommunities, comprising approximately 10,000 students representing30% of the undergraduate population. These students are members of66+ active chapters organized into 4 governing councils

Job Summary

Department Specific Responsibilities

  • Serves as a high-level strategic partner and advocate for theGreek experience as a primary driver of student retention,leadership development, and campus spirit.
  • Establishes the vision for OSFL to ensure it serves as aflagship model for the IUB 2030 Strategic Plan, specificallyregarding transformative student engagement and success.
  • Serves as the university's lead consultant and content areaexpert on the intersection of student social life, high-riskbehavior mitigation, and organizational governance.
  • Holds the authority to implement internal policies, programparameters, and safety protocols to ensure community health anduniversity compliance.
  • Responsible for the Greek Fee (generating $450,000+ annually)and the OSFL Programming Budget, ensuring cost containment andrigorous stewardship of university resources.
  • Directs a professional staff including Associate Directors,Assistant Directors, and administrative support; holds authorityfor hiring, performance management, and professional growth.
  • Provides executive oversight of recruitment technology andanalytics, specifically Campus Director, to ensure equitable growthand data-informed decision-making for thousands of potential newmembers.
  • Co-leads the Hazing Prevention Coalition and directscampus-wide efforts in prevention and response for studentorganizations.
  • Works in close partnership with the Office of the Dean ofStudents (ODOS) and the Office of Student Conduct to addressorganizational health, student needs, and policy violations.
  • Oversees the Standards of Excellence assessment program toinform prevention efforts and share chapter performance data withinternal and external stakeholders.
  • Serves as the primary university liaison to Inter/NationalHeadquarters and industry governing bodies, including the NorthAmerican Interfraternity Conference (NIC) and the NationalPanhellenic Conference (NPC).
  • Facilitates engagement with alumni advisors, House CorporationBoards, and community volunteers to ensure the long-term viabilityof chapter facilities.
  • Leads a proactive communication strategy for parents andfamilies, providing transparency and resources to one of theuniversity's most engaged constituent groups.
  • Oversees curricular courses taught by OSFL staff and serves asa content area expert on university-wide committees.
  • While this position typically follows traditional businesshours, the Director serves as a primary point of contact forhigh-level crisis situations occurring within the Greekcommunity.
  • This person does not serve in a regular on-call rotation but isexpected to be available to respond to phone calls and emergencysituations that occur beyond traditional working hours whenhigh-stakes incidents require executive-level intervention.
  • Leads the departmental response to campus disruptions,coordinating with IU Police and General Counsel to ensure a safeand stable environment.

General Responsibilities

  • Provides highest level of operational leadership andcoordination of assigned staff members to define student lifemethodologies and standards; provides direction and guidance onhigh priority student life projects/initiatives.
  • Establishes short-term business plans and long-term operationalobjectives, including managing project timelines/deliverables anddeveloping resource plans for multi-project/multi-phase studentlife initiatives.
  • Conducts a variety of personnel actions to include, but notlimited to hiring, promotion, performance management, anddismissal.
  • Manages high level assignments and allocation of student liferesources, including negotiating and coordinating initiatives thatinvolve staff in other departments/areas/teams; may coordinatelarge-scale student life projects with a wide audiences in supportof academic initiatives.
  • Makes budgetary recommendations/proposals based on resourceneeds and ensures cost containment.
  • Researches and stays up-to-date on new industry student lifestandards, technologies, policies, and procedures; responsible forthe implementation of new protocols/procedures to address businessneeds.
  • Works collaboratively with other student life leaders acrossdepartments in recommending standards, best practices, and relatedpolicies/procedures.
  • Prepares management reports and summaries for senioradministration, executive, steering and advisory committees; actsas advisor to executive committees; serves on various universitycommittees, communities of practice, and task forces related tostudent life.
  • May serve on various campus or cross-functional committees toshare student life best practices.

Combinations of related education and experience may beconsidered. Education beyond the minimum required may besubstituted for work experience. Work experience beyond the minimumrequired may be substituted for education.

EDUCATION

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in education, public affairs, public health,social work, counseling, or related field

Preferred

  • Master's degree in higher education student affairs or relatedfield

WORK EXPERIENCE

Required

  • 4 years in student life, higher education student affairs, orrelated field
  • 1 year of management experience in relevant field

Working Conditions / Demands

This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and tooperate a computer and other standard office productivityequipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periodsof time moving around an office environment and the campus. Theperson in this role must be able to perform the essential functionswith or without an accommodation.

Advertised Salary

Up to $140,000.00 annually commensurate with education andexperience.
