Director Of Engineering - Platform Services

Summary

The Director of Engineering, Platform Services, leads Core Platform Services responsible for foundational infrastructure platforms used across the company. This director-of-managers role oversees roughly 30 engineers and program managers across multiple teams and reports to a Senior Director in Platform & Data. The role defines multi-year technical direction, drives enterprise-scale platform migrations, and balances innovation with operational stability, security, and cost efficiency.

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop Engineering Managers and senior technical leaders across multiple platform teams.
• Set and communicate a multi-year technical strategy aligned to business priorities.
• Own delivery of platform capabilities and govern production change for critical systems.
• Drive architectural decisions across infrastructure, developer services, observability, and automation.
• Lead major platform migration programs from legacy systems to modern platforms.
• Manage vendor relationships, technology contracts, and licensing optimization.
• Improve engineering practices including cloud-native architecture, CI/CD, and self-service developer tooling.

Requirements

• 10+ years of experience in software, infrastructure, or platform engineering roles.
• 5+ years leading managers and senior technical leaders in large, complex environments.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent professional experience.
• Proven success shaping and delivering multi-year technology modernization and platform migration strategies.
• Strong technical breadth across infrastructure domains (data, observability, developer tooling, middleware).
• Experience governing production systems in high-availability, high-stakes environments.
• Familiarity with compliance-sensitive operations (e.g., PCI DSS), enterprise developer platforms, and retail/e-commerce operational rhythms preferred.
