Director of Mentorship and Student Engagement

The Director of Mentorship and Student Engagement provides strategic leadership for programs, services, and initiatives that promote student engagement, retention, persistence, and academic success. The Director oversees a comprehensive portfolio that includes mentorship programs, leadership development, student success initiatives, and the federally funded TRIO Student Support Services Program. The position is responsible for supervising professional and student staff, managing departmental operations and resources, fostering collaborative partnerships, and utilizing data-informed practices to enhance student outcomes. The Director also serves as a key advocate for student success by developing innovative programs, teaching leadership-focused coursework, and creating opportunities that strengthen students' sense of connection, engagement, and participation within the university community. Through strategic planning, assessment, and collaboration, the Director advances institutional priorities related to student success, engagement, and degree completion.

Responsibilities include providing strategic leadership and oversight for the Office of Mentorship and Student Engagement, ensuring alignment with institutional priorities, divisional goals, and student success initiatives. The Director develops, implements, and assesses departmental goals, policies, procedures, and operational practices that enhance student engagement, retention, persistence, and graduation outcomes. The Director manages the Mentorship and Student Engagement Commons and recommends the development and utilization of additional campus spaces that support student connection, engagement, and success. The Director leads strategic planning efforts utilizing institutional data, student feedback, and assessment results to guide decision-making and continuous improvement. The Director represents the office on institutional committees, task forces, and leadership groups to advance university priorities and student success initiatives.

The Director supervises and evaluates the performance of the office's Associate Director, Assistant Director, Coordinators, Administrative Assistant, and other staff. The Director establishes clear expectations, performance goals, and professional development opportunities that promote staff effectiveness and career growth. The Director fosters a collaborative and student-centered workplace culture that supports innovation, accountability, and excellence. The Director oversees recruitment, onboarding, training, and evaluation processes for professional and student staff within the department.

The Director provides strategic oversight of departmental budgets through responsible planning, forecasting, reconciliation, resource allocation, and financial stewardship. The Director identifies and pursues external funding opportunities through fundraising initiatives and collaborative partnerships that support departmental priorities. The Director oversees all office communications, marketing, website management, publications, and social media efforts to promote programs, services, and student success initiatives. The Director develops strategic communication plans that increase awareness, participation, and engagement among students, faculty, staff, alumni, and community stakeholders. The Director cultivates collaborative partnerships with campus and community organizations to expand resources, enhance program delivery, and advance institutional goals.

The Director provides leadership and oversight for the Multicultural Mentorship Program (MMP), The Brotherhood Program, Augusta Promise initiatives, Jag for Jags, and the federally funded TRIO Student Support Services Program to support the academic success of first-generation, income-eligible students. The Director serves as Project Director for the TRIO Student Support Services Program, ensuring compliance with federal regulations, grant objectives, reporting requirements, budget management, and program assessment. The Director establishes measurable outcomes and key performance indicators for student success programs and utilizes assessment data to drive continuous improvement and demonstrate program effectiveness. The Director utilizes qualitative and quantitative data to assess student outcomes, measure program effectiveness, and implement evidence-based strategies that enhance student success, persistence, and degree completion.

The Director guides the development, implementation, and evaluation of co-curricular programs, services, and initiatives that enhance student engagement, leadership development, and campus involvement. The Director teaches and develops leadership-focused curriculum through the Leadership Certificate Program and courses including Inquiry 1000, LDRS 2000, and LDRS 3000. The Director creates opportunities for students to develop leadership competencies, civic engagement skills, and professional readiness through structured learning experiences. The Director collaborates with campus departments to deliver programs and initiatives that strengthen student connection, engagement, and overall student success.

Required Qualifications: Masters degree from an accredited college or university and a minimum of 5 years experience in higher education or related field.

Preferred Qualifications: At least 5-7 years of successful, relevant professional progressive experience in a leadership and/or supervisory role related to access, academic success, or community building in higher education. Grant-writing experience.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities: A demonstrated leadership style that builds collaborative relationships and consensus with faculty, staff, and students. Excellent written communication skills, and the ability to speak to a variety of stakeholders, including students, parents, faculty, and alumni. Budget management skills. A demonstrated commitment to providing access, success, and in all its forms, including a track record of institutional programming. Ability and commitment to facilitating student success. Shift: Days; M-F (Work outside of normal business hours may be required) Pay Band: B14 Salary: $68,500-$86,595 Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position Recruitment Period: Until Filled Augusta University offers a variety of benefits to full-time benefits-eligible employees and some of our half-time (or more) employees.
