Position Description
The Dialysis Registered Nurse (RN) provides specialized care to patients with end‑stage renal disease (ESRD), acute kidney injury (AKI), and late‑stage chronic kidney disease (CKD) in both inpatient and outpatient settings. The dialysis unit supports a capacity of 4 beds and 14 chairs per shift, delivering hemodialysis for scheduled patients, while emergent dialysis is performed in acute care areas, including the Critical Care and Emergency Department. After‑hours dialysis is supported by an on‑call nurse. This position demands expertise in renal care management, critical thinking, and effective communication to address the unique needs of patients undergoing hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis treatments in a variety of clinical settings.
Primary Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive nursing care to patients with ESRD, AKI, or late‑stage CKD undergoing hemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis in inpatient or outpatient settings.
- Perform hemodialysis via fistula, graft, or venous catheter following unit protocols.
- Maintain accurate documentation in the electronic health record and treatment flowsheets.
- Monitor and report patient status, trends, and outcomes to the interdisciplinary team.
- Educate patients, families, and providers; assist in orientation and competencies.
- Lead and direct other nursing staff and providers as needed.
- Promote safe transitions across the health care continuum and provide quality improvement support.
- Apply ANA Standards of Nursing Practice and ANA Code of Ethics in all patient care activities.
- Apply high reliability principles and I CARE values to improve patient outcomes.
Minimum Qualifications
- BLS and ACLS certification.
- At least three (3) years of nursing experience providing hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis.
- Unrestricted license to practice medicine in one of the States, Territories, or Commonwealths of the United States or the District of Columbia.
