Job Summary

Data Scientist II – Mountain View, CA. 40 hours per week, 8:00‑5:00 pm. Salary range: $157,300 – $212,800. Amazon Web Services, Inc. (AWS) is an Equal Opportunity – Minority / Female / Disability / Veteran / Gender Identity / Sexual Orientation employer.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement scalable and reliable approaches to support or automate decision‑making throughout the business.
  • Acquire data by building necessary SQL/ETL queries and importing processes through various company‑specific interfaces for Oracle, RedShift, and Spark storage systems.
  • Build relationships with stakeholders and counterparts to understand requirements and validate solutions.
  • Analyze data for trends and input validity by inspecting univariate distributions, exploring bivariate relationships, constructing appropriate transformations, and tracking the source and meaning of anomalies.
  • Build models using statistical, mathematical, econometric, network, social network, natural language processing, machine learning, genetic, and neural‑network techniques.
  • Validate models against alternative approaches, expected and observed outcomes, and business‑defined key performance indicators.
  • Implement models that meet computational demands, accuracy, and reliability requirements across various stages of production.

Basic Qualifications

  • Master’s degree (or equivalent) in Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Economics, Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field and at least one year of experience in the job offered or a related occupation.
  • Alternative: Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in the same fields with five years of progressive post‑baccalaureate experience in the job offered or a related occupation.
  • At least one year of experience building statistical and machine‑learning models using large datasets from multiple resources.
  • Experience writing SQL scripts for analysis and data migration.
  • Proficiency with specialized modelling software including R, Python, or MATLAB.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Oracle, RedShift, and Spark storage systems.
  • Experience in designing ETL processes that are scalable and reliable.
  • Experience validating models against key performance indicators and business outcomes.
  • Knowledge of the AWS ecosystem and related data services.
