The primary focus of this position will center on providing high levels of customer service including on-site and on-call plant operational support. The Chief Engineer will have a thorough understanding of all aspects of building operations, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and general maintenance.Must be able to operate as a team member, support the Engineering manager, Regional Manager, PDS and associated FM Team as required, organize and prioritize multiple tasks and have strong customer service skills supporting a wide range of clients, contractors and client employees.ResponsibilitiesOversee building systems maintenance and operations across Maryland portfolioManage engineering and maintenance staff, including hiring, development, and supervisionPerform preventive maintenance and provide hands-on technical support as neededEngage in client communications and property team meetingsManage operating budgets and capital improvement planningDirect contractor work and monitor performanceRespond to emergencies and service calls promptlyLead technical, safety, and operational training programsConduct regular building inspections and document findingsManage CMMS and BAS systems, including alarm response and diagnosticsFoster a safety-first culture with risk assessment and mitigationMaintain work order completion within service level agreementsMentor team members on HVAC, electrical, and plumbing systemsDiagnose and repair mechanical systems including HVAC, plumbing, and electrical componentsAddress building repairs including damaged surfaces and general maintenanceIdentify cost-saving opportunities without compromising service qualityDeliver exceptional customer service to tenants with minimal disruptionMaintain required documentation and compliance recordsParticipate in on-call rotation and after-hours coverage as neededSupport emergency recovery efforts and business continuitySafetyIdentify safety hazards within the building and incorporate the remediation of such hazards to ensure that the building's staff and occupants work in a safe environment.
Implement, administer, and manage safety training program.Ensure that compliance of all regulatory laws and guidelines are met as they relate to the operation of the building's infrastructure. Responsible for alerting management of building discrepancies.Maintain all infrastructure and compliance documentation for the building including up-to-date building drawings and single-lines as well as documentation mandated for the purpose of maintaining regulatory compliance with federal, state or local law.LeadershipSupervise and manage engineers and maintenance staff including hiring, training and personal developmentEnsure that all policies and procedures are followed by the assigned engineering team.Establish relationships amongst the different teams within the JLL/Client account.TrainingProvides training and support aimed at expanding the capabilities of the operations staff. Specific duties include but are not limited to: demonstrating the proper use and care of tools and instruments, giving hands on instruction in basic maintenance, safety and troubleshooting procedures, recommending relevant outside engineering courses for enrollment and instilling an overall level of professionalism in manner and appearance.Any and all other duties and tasks assigned.Qualifications5 - 7 years of construction or building engineering related experienceTrade or Maintenance License preferredHigh school diploma or GED equivalentExperienced with various types of hand tools and use of diagnostic equipmentPhysically able to operate electric hand tools, work on a ladder, carry tools and lift and carry up to 70 poundsAble to work in close spaces such as closets, crawl spaces and able to work on roofs of buildings.Ability to diagnosis problems, make sound decisions, prioritize, schedule and complete multiple tasksProven safety record and compliance to safe work practicesInterpret engineering drawings and equipment manualsCFC Universal Refrigerant Certification is requiredProficient computer skills including e-mail, word and excelExposure to a CMMS system, such as Corrigo a plusExperience operating in secured spacesEstimated total compensation for this position: 89,996.00 – 115,000.00 USD per yearLocation: On-site –Columbia, MD, Gaithersburg, MD, Washington, DCIf this job description resonates with you, we encourage you to apply, even if you don't meet all the requirements.
