Houston Methodist Specialty Physician Group is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Intensivist to join their Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) team at Houston Methodist Hospital. This role involves caring for complex cardiovascular surgical and medical patients within a high-acuity tertiary and quaternary care unit. The successful candidate will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to deliver exceptional patient care and contribute to the education of medical students, residents, fellows, and advanced practice providers.

Practice Info

  • The CVICU is part of the Center for Critical Care at Houston Methodist Hospital, located in the Texas Medical Center.
  • The CVICU is a high-acuity tertiary and quaternary care unit.
  • The unit cares for complex cardiovascular surgical and medical patients, including post-operative cardiac surgery, advanced heart failure, cardiogenic shock, mechanical circulatory support, heart and lung transplantation, and ECMO.
  • Work collaboratively with cardiovascular surgeons, anesthesiologists, perfusionists, pharmacists, nursing staff, respiratory therapists, APPs, fellows, residents, and medical students.
  • Highly collaborative and collegial work environment with outstanding nursing support.

Responsibilities

  • Manage critically ill cardiovascular patients, including post-cardiac surgery care.
  • Perform advanced hemodynamic monitoring.
  • Manage mechanical circulatory support, including intra-aortic balloon pump and Impella.
  • Manage VA and VV ECMO.
  • Manage temporary ventricular assist devices.
  • Interpret pulmonary artery catheter data.
  • Perform airway management and bedside procedures.
  • Manage multisystem organ failure.

Requirements

  • American Board certified in Critical Care Medicine.
  • State of Texas Medical Licensure.
  • DEA.
  • DPS.
  • Strong interest in Cardiovascular and Critical Care Medicine.
  • Expertise in the management of critically ill cardiovascular patients.
  • Expertise in general critical care medicine.
  • Commitment to multidisciplinary, team-based care.
  • Strong interest in the education of medical students, residents, fellows, and advanced practice providers.
