Rick’s Custom Fencing & Decking is seeking a hands-on, results-driven Store Manager to lead the launch and ongoing operation of a new location serving the Tacoma, Seattle, and Olympia markets.

This is a unique opportunity to join the business before the location opens and play a key role in building the operation from the ground up. The selected candidate will complete approximately 3 to 4 months of immersive training at Rick’s established Oregon operations, learning our products, systems, customer experience, sales processes, inventory practices, and operating models.

Following training, the Store Manager will transition to Washington and take ownership of opening and operating the new location. The final store location within the Tacoma, Seattle, or Olympia market will be influenced by business needs and the location of the selected candidate.

This role is ideal for an experienced operator who enjoys building teams, serving customers, driving sales, and taking ownership of a business.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Store Leadership & Operations

  • Own the day-to-day performance of the Washington store.
  • Lead the successful opening and ramp-up of the new location.
  • Manage store operations, staffing, inventory, merchandising, customer service, and facility standards.
  • Establish operating routines and ensure consistent execution of Rick’s processes and standards.
  • Maintain a safe, organized, professional, and customer-focused environment.
  • Identify operational issues quickly and take ownership of solutions.
  • Drive store revenue and profitable growth within the Tacoma, Seattle, and Olympia market.
  • Build strong relationships with contractors, homeowners, and other customers.
  • Ensure customers receive knowledgeable, responsive, and professional service.
  • Develop local relationships that increase awareness, traffic, repeat business, and customer loyalty.
  • Monitor sales performance and identify opportunities to improve results.
  • Help recruit, onboard, train, and develop the Washington store team.
  • Set clear expectations and hold employees accountable for performance.
  • Build a culture centered on customer service, teamwork, safety, and execution.
  • Coach employees on product knowledge, sales effectiveness, and operational standards.
  • Develop bench strength as the Washington operation grows.
  • Maintain appropriate inventory levels based on customer demand and market needs.
  • Monitor inventory accuracy, shrink, product availability, and overall store organization.
  • Manage labor and operating expenses responsibly.
  • Understand and manage the key drivers of store profitability.
  • Use operational and financial metrics to identify opportunities and improve performance.

New Store Launch

  • Complete approximately 3 to 4 months of training within Rick’s Oregon operations.
  • Become proficient in Rick’s systems, products, processes, and operating model.
  • Partner with leadership to prepare the Washington location for its anticipated February 1, 2027 opening.
  • Assist with hiring, inventory setup, operational readiness, customer development, and launch planning.
  • Transfer Rick’s established operating practices into the new Washington market while adapting appropriately to local market conditions.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 5+ years of leadership experience in store management, branch management, distribution, building materials, construction supply, retail, or a related environment preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience managing people, operations, customers, and financial performance.
  • Strong business judgment with an ownership mentality.
  • Ability to build and lead a team in a new-market environment.
  • Strong customer service and relationship-building skills.
  • Comfortable working in a hands-on operating environment.
  • Experience with inventory management, purchasing, or building materials is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to analyze operational and financial performance and take corrective action.
  • Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
