Behavioral Specialist

Required Licensure: Current MN Special Education License/Board Certified Behavioral Analyst
Required Experience: Experience with school-age students with disabilities Ability to work successfully with students and adults of various economic, racial, and cultural backgrounds Knowledge of social education procedures Knowledgeable of current best practices in the field of special education, specifically in the area of behavior with evidence of the continuing pursuit of such knowledge. Experience with data analysis and data-driven decision making to support instruction and behavior interventions Effective skills in the areas of time management, task prioritization, problem solving and development of solutions Effective written and oral communication skills Minimum of three years; experience teaching special education students and/or working with students with significant behavioral challenges
Responsibilities
Work and train collaboratively with site based teams Conduct observations of students, promote collaborative team processes and provide behavioral strategies and coaching to staff. Assist with collaboration among teachers, students, families and community to meet education needs Assist and coach probationary and tenured staff to further develop their practices related to behavior interventions, classroom strategies, room arrangement, etc. Facilitate training on threat & risk assessments for the district collaborating with the mental health teams Facilitate effective team meetings to review strategies and assure fidelity of intervention implementation Develop data collection and monitoring procedures to monitor intervention fidelity and success Provide professional development in research-based pedagogy and best practices for licensed and paraprofessional staff Assist educators with implementing research-based best practices for interventions, personalized learning and behavior improvement. Attend student and team meetings when requested or as appropriate. Collaborate with IEP team, including parents, on behavior plans and supports Support Special Education programs and services to ensure students are educated in the least restrictive environment and improve programming to reduce the need for more restrictive placements and contracted support Attend professional development as determined by special education leadership Attend Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) Training, maintain certification and/or serve as a district-wide CPI trainer; provide crisis intervention and support to students and staff as needed. Communicate regularly with the Special Education leadership
