Baker PositionThe Baker is responsible for the daily preparation and presentation of baked items sold in the store ensuring customer satisfaction and excellent service.The Baker is responsible for the daily preparation and presentation of baked items sold in the store that ensures customer satisfaction and excellent service.Essential duties and responsibilities include:Upon arrival in the morning, light the gas ovens, check for gas leaks, turn on the extractorBake bread, pastries or other bakery items as neededPrepare flan, custards, rice pudding or other bakery items as neededPlace loaves of bread into bags and put on display for sale, restocking when necessaryMaintain awareness of floor conditions; ensure all safety measures are taken to protect customers, vendors and employeesRestock displays of food as needed; retrieve food from back room, kitchen and coolerMaintain all requirements for a sanitary work area to keep food safe from contamination; adhere to department procedures with all aspects of federal, state, local and company health, safety and sanitation codesKeep work area clean, orderly, and free from safety hazards; Wash, sanitize, and store knives and other department utensils and equipment properlyUse all equipment in the kitchen properly such as the stoves, ovens, fryers, steamers, etc., according to company guidelines; call for repairs when equipment malfunctions occurReport all accidents promptly according to company proceduresAssist the head cook as neededEnsure safety measures are taken upon oneself when handling or carrying hot trays of foodEnsure all standards of cleanliness are maintained using gloves when warrantedWhen scheduled for the evening shift, prepare bread dough for baking the next morning by placing on trays and allowing dough to rise overnightAttend and participate in department or store meetingsPunctuality and good attendance in compliance with company policies; ensure work responsibilities are covered during foreseeable absencesPerforms other work-related duties as required to accomplish the objectives of the positionSecondary duties and responsibilities include:Assist the food servers as needed by promptly attending to customers' requests for department food productsSweep and/or mop floor as neededMinimum requirements include:High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred; minimum 18 years of age, previous food service experience, and current food safety training certificate required which must be renewed every three (3) years.Competencies, skills and/or qualifications include:Ability to read and speak English and Spanish preferredAbility to understand and follow instructions in both English and Spanish preferredAbility and to effectively present information and respond to questions in one-on-oneGood interpersonal skillsAbility to use department equipment properly to accomplish the essential duties of the positionTakes responsibility for own actionsAbility to work hours and days scheduled, including holidays and weekendsBasic mathematical skills; ability to use and understand weights and measuresAbility to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions in written, oral or diagram formDemonstrates accuracy and thoroughnessPhysical demands include:Stand and walkUse fingers and hands to type, handle, or feel; use repetitive motionReach with hands and armsTalk and hearUse sense of smellClose vision and peripheral visionCarry, lift and/or move departmental food products and merchandisePush and pull carts of departmental food products and merchandiseTwist back and neckStoop or bend at the waistCrouch or bend at the kneesKneel
