Introduction
Our client is a privately owned, AHAA Accredited veterinary hospital seeking a full-time Associate Veterinarian to join its established small animal team. The hospital provides comprehensive care for cats and dogs and is focused on delivering high-quality, modern veterinary medicine within a supportive, family-style environment. The practice has been serving its community since 1975 and combines the personal feel of a small clinic with advanced medical technology, clinical autonomy, and a strong commitment to work-life balance.
Role Description and Responsibilities
The Associate Veterinarian will provide comprehensive medical care for canine and feline patients, including wellness examinations, preventative medicine, diagnostics, surgery, dentistry, nutritional counselling, behavioural consultations, and treatment of sick patients. A typical day is composed of either appointments or surgical procedures in the morning followed by a two-hour break, allowing for lunch and admin time, after which all doctors go into appointments for the afternoon. Appointment lengths are never shorter than 30 minutes and may extend to 60 minutes for sick or more complex patients, allowing doctors time to provide thoughtful care and communicate clearly with clients. Doctors rotate through the surgical schedule, although the practice is willing to accommodate individual clinical interests, including veterinarians who prefer a heavier surgical caseload or those who focus primarily on appointments. The role is open to experienced veterinarians and new graduates, with previous experience supporting doctors at the beginning of their careers.
Practice Details
The hospital is open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Full‑time doctors work between 36 and 40 hours across a four‑day working week and cover one four‑hour Saturday shift every three weeks. The hospital is equipped with digital radiography, dental radiography, ultrasound, endoscopy, comprehensive in‑house laboratory equipment, a cytology analyser, a dental machine, a dedicated surgical suite, therapeutic laser technology, paperless medical records, and an AI medical scribe. Services include routine wellness care, vaccinations, preventative medicine, surgery, dentistry, diagnostics, microchipping, nutritional counselling, behavioural consultations, allergy care, pharmacy services, and online prescription and food ordering. The hospital is AAHA accredited and one doctor is individually Fear Free certified. The practice supports medical autonomy without micromanagement and is comfortable referring patients to specialty hospitals when this is in their best interests.
Team
The hospital currently has three DVMs and provides a one‑to‑one technician‑to‑doctor ratio, alongside an additional technician who manages technician appointments. The wider team includes experienced staff members, some of whom have worked at the hospital for more than 17 years, and the practice is currently recruiting additional technicians. The hospital has cultivated a close‑knit, supportive culture where colleagues assist one another and benefit from the familiarity and personal atmosphere of a small family clinic. The team values longevity, communication, mutual support, and giving doctors the freedom to practise medicine according to their own clinical judgement.
