Position Overview
Assistant Vice President – Senior Underwriter, Wholesale Lower Middle Market Excess Casualty. This role focuses on developing and underwriting a profitable book of middle‑market surplus lines Excess Casualty risks, primarily ranging from $15,000 to $100,000 in premium.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and underwrite a profitable book of business in line with strategic business plans while maintaining a diversified mix.
- Employ analytical diagnostics to assess acceptability, pricing adequacy, and market positioning of new and renewal accounts.
- Negotiate terms and conditions with wholesale brokers in a competitive environment.
- Manage and prioritize multiple tasks, ensuring timely execution of underwriting activities within established guidelines.
- Support changes to short‑term and long‑term business strategies, adjusting quickly to achieve profitability goals.
- Make recommendations to business unit leadership regarding market strategy, product development and departmental efficiencies.
- Stay current on national, state, and regional regulations, industry activity, and trends.
- Participate proactively in underwriting training and assist with special underwriting projects and presentations.
Required Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- 7 to 15 years of excess casualty underwriting experience.
- Strong negotiation and business development abilities.
- Solid foundation in underwriting principles, practices, and procedures.

Compensation & Benefits
Base salary range: $142,000 – $190,000. Compensation will be based on experience and location. All employees are eligible for competitive incentive targets tied to overall corporate and individual performance.
