Job Purpose
The Bench/Assistant General Manager assists the General Manager with overseeing the operation of the entire restaurant, maintaining a safe environment, and improving bottom line profitability through appropriate revenue management.
Team Responsibilities
- Assist General Manager with overall restaurant staffing planning.
- Assist other managers with hiring decisions for all departments.
- Conduct informative, focused weekly manager meetings in partnership with the General Manager.
- Create, develop, and implement incentive programs and contests with assigned Department Managers.
- Actively motivate team members to participate in company promotions and incentives.
- Provide regular performance feedback and recognition to Department Managers and all team members, including timely performance appraisals.
- Coaching other managers on effective performance management procedures.
- Assist with ongoing performance management and development of assigned Department Managers.
Guest Responsibilities
- Actively look for and identify techniques to attract new guests.
- Oversee the restaurant’s Guest Comment program; ensure all guest complaints are appropriately handled and resolved in a timely manner.
- Provide feedback and coaching to managers on methods for handling guest complaints.
Quality Operations Responsibilities
- Facilitate and ensure adherence to new food product rollouts.
- Ensure Department Managers and their teams meet or exceed company standards for serving quality products, recipe adherence, and portioning.
- Communicate areas of opportunity to Department Managers.
- Help the General Manager teach, coach, and direct managers and team members on quality, service, cleanliness standards, and proper inventory levels.
- Understand and analyze restaurant performance measurement tools (GEM, QSCs, audits, P&L) and troubleshoot problems.
- Work with Department Managers to create action plans to address issues and follow up to ensure successful completion.
- Conduct administrative manager functions including entering invoices, inventory, and end‑of‑day procedures.
- Monitor all repair and maintenance and manage the preventive maintenance program for the restaurant, communicating needs to appropriate personnel.
Sales and Profits Responsibilities
- Hold Department Managers accountable for costs associated with their departments.
- Maintain proper inventory levels for all food and paper products.
- Participate in departmental meetings for assigned Department Managers.
- Assist with communicating successes, new procedures, and areas of opportunity.
- Establish daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly projections.
- Understand the P&L statement and create action plans for problem areas.
- Assist the General Manager in the creation and development of the annual restaurant budget.
- Teach Department Managers how to meet or exceed budgeted profit goals, reacting to trends and troubleshooting problem areas.
- Complete all other assigned duties or tasks.
Assistant Manager Responsibilities (Additional Focus)
- Support and inspire team members to deliver top‑tier service and unforgettable fan experiences.
- Assist in coaching, training, and developing the team.
- Help execute daily operations, ensuring quality, speed, and accuracy across all areas.
- Step in where needed—front of house, back of house, bar, or takeout—to keep things running strong.
- Help maintain a clean, safe, and compliant environment.
- Support promotions, local marketing efforts, and in‑store fan engagement.
Qualifications
- Understanding of restaurant operations, food safety, and responsible alcohol service preferred.
- High school diploma (or equivalent) required; 1–3 years of restaurant or leadership experience preferred.
