Job Description
Anesthesia Technologist
Hours
- 1:30 PM - 10:30 PM
- Holidays, weekends, on-call, and callback as needed
- 1 year contract only
- Patient Care Assistance (20%)
- Assist in the care of patients undergoing anesthesia by preparing anesthesia equipment prior to patient arrival.
- Place anesthesia monitors and ensure the cleanliness of anesthesia equipment.
- Ensure the availability of specialized anesthesia equipment and supplies.
- Set up medications and supplies as applicable.
- Communicate continuously with anesthesiologists, residents, CRNAs, and anesthesia technologists to meet their needs throughout the day.
- Assist clinicians with difficult intubations and placement of central line catheters.
- Equipment Operation (20%)
- Operate the cell-saver machine and keep track of lab reports, participating in advanced surgical cases including cardiac, liver transplant, vascular, thoracic, and trauma cases.
- Work directly with the service-specific faculty Division Chief of designated specialty.
- Provide on-call coverage as needed.
- Equipment Maintenance (20%)
- Provide primary support to ensure anesthesia equipment is in good working order and preventive maintenance is completed.
- Set up and operate sophisticated equipment, performing advanced troubleshooting.
- Act as the key resource for using and maintaining specialized equipment.
- Training and Development (15%)
- Assist the Chief Anesthesia Technologist in developing and implementing in-service training programs.
- Support the training of staff in the roles and responsibilities of an anesthesia technologist.
- Equipment Setup and Troubleshooting (15%)
- Perform anesthesia equipment setup and troubleshooting, including testing infusion pumps, nerve stimulators, defibrillators, and transport monitors.
- Calibrate anesthesia machines and attach fiberoptic bronchoscopes to video monitors.
- Room Setup (5%)
- Set up rooms between cases and prepare carts throughout the day, providing full service setup at the end of the day.
- Collaborate with other hospital units to ensure availability of specialized anesthesia equipment.
- Support ectopic procedures for anesthesia care by ensuring proper equipment is in place for out-of-OR procedures.
- Supervisory Support (5%)
- Provide backup to the shift supervisor in their absence due to vacation or illness.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the shift supervisor, Chief Anesthesia Technologist, or Operations Manager.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Two years of experience as an Anesthesia Technologist.
- A four-year college education including related technical training; or a two-year college education with technical training closely related to this position accompanied by two years of experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Certification by the registry of the American Society of Anesthesia Technologists or another nationally recognized professional certifying body is preferred.
