Position Summary
The Assistant General Manager supports the General Manager in leading daily restaurant operations,
developing the team, and achieving strong guest-service and financial results. This hands-on leader
helps ensure consistent execution across the dining room, bar, and back-of-house partnership.
Key Responsibilities
Operational and Financial Leadership
• Lead daily restaurant operations, service readiness, and front-of-house/back-of-house coordination.
• Monitor sales, labor, cost of goods, inventory, and other operating results; identify issues and take
timely corrective action.
• Support ordering, vendor relationships, inventory controls, financial reporting, and cost-control
strategies.
• Help build schedules and staffing plans that support service standards while meeting labor goals.
Team Leadership and Development
• Support hiring, onboarding, training, scheduling, performance management, and employee
retention.
• Coach and develop managers and hourly team members while reinforcing clear performance and
workplace standards.
• Model a respectful, inclusive, anti-racist, and anti-sexist workplace culture grounded in hospitality,
accountability, and empathy.
Guest Experience
• Maintain a visible leadership presence during service and ensure a warm, professional, and
consistently positive guest experience.
• Lead guest recovery, resolve concerns, and support service training and flow management.
• Ensure food and beverage quality, presentation, and hospitality standards are consistently met.
Safety, Compliance, and Collaboration
• Ensure compliance with food safety, alcohol service, workplace safety, security, loss prevention, and
applicable employment policies.
• Maintain strong communication among front-of-house, back-of-house, events, NATIFS teams, and
organizational leadership.
Updated 8.7.26 Required Skills and Abilities
• Five or more years of leadership experience in a high-volume restaurant, fine-dining, or hotel
environment.
• Demonstrated success leading managers and hourly teams, including coaching, performance
management, and talent development.
• Strong financial and analytical skills, with experience managing labor, inventory, costs, and
operating results.
• Excellent communication, organization, problem-solving, and follow-through.
• Ability to remain composed, make sound decisions, and lead effectively in a fast-paced
environment.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience in culturally significant or Indigenous-led hospitality.
• Commitment to learning about Indigenous cuisine and culture and advancing the mission of
NATIFS.
• Current ServSafe Food Manager Certification, or ability to obtain it within six months of hire.
Working Conditions
• On-site position requiring regular presence during service hours.
• Flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays, with regular attendance required.
• Ability to stand for extended periods; reach, bend, and stoop; safely climb ladders; and lift or move
up to 40 pounds.
