Accounting SpecialistThe Office of Administrative Services for Independent Agencies (OASIA) provides budgeting, accounting, human resources, payroll, procurement, and IT support to Colorado's independent agencies. Our work helps the agencies we serve focus on their public service missions.About the Role: The Accounting Specialist provides financial management support and accounting expertise to a portfolio of independent agencies served by OASIA. This position helps ensure accurate, compliant, and efficient financial operations through transaction processing, fiscal guidance, and customer service tailored to each agency's needs. Examples of standard processes and operational needs include corresponding with a diverse group of internal and external stakeholders and completing fiscal-year-end closing procedures.Agencies retain ownership of their financial decisions.
The Accounting Specialist serves as a consultative partner, providing technical expertise and practical support for sound fiscal management.Location and schedule: This is a full-time hybrid position based at the Ralph Carr Judicial Center in Denver, Colorado. If you're excited about building effective financial systems and thrive in a role with real accountability, this is the perfect position to apply your skills and make a tangible difference.Key Responsibilities:Prepare, review, and approve accounting transactions in compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) pronouncements, State of Colorado Fiscal Rules, statutory requirements, and other applicable guidance. Transactions include disbursements, receipts, journal entries, intra-governmental transfers, and commercial card transactions.Collaborate with assigned agencies on Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, procurement, employee travel and expense reimbursements, and other daily accounting operations.Support agency staff with commercial card reconciliation and management.
Provide guidance on documentation requirements, review reconciliation reports for accuracy and compliance, resolve discrepancies, and help ensure timely submission and processing.Perform routine to moderately complex account reconciliations, maintain accurate ledgers, and monitor accounts for compliance. Investigate discrepancies and take corrective action.Ensure the integrity and reconciliation of transactions in the Colorado Resource Engine (CORE) and applicable agency accounting systems. Add, change, and delete vendor records in CORE as needed.Prepare timely and accurate financial reports. Review and analyze data for alignment with applicable standards, policies, and agency needs.Provide fiscal guidance and responsive customer service to agency staff and leadership on accounting questions, compliance requirements, and process improvements.Educate and train agency personnel on fiscal rules, accounting systems, and procedures.Work with vendors and agency staff to obtain, verify, and update tax documentation and vendor information needed for accurate reporting and transaction management.Attend required meetings, training, and professional development to stay current on fiscal policies, accounting systems, and best practices.Ideal Candidate Profile: You are a proactive accounting professional with a passion for public service.
