Mainframe zOS DB2 Systems ProgrammerMy name is Bill Stevens, and I have a new twelve month plus Mainframe zOS DB2 Systems Programmer opportunity available for a major firm with offices in Holmdel, NJ, Bethlehem, PA, New York, NY and Stamford, CT that could be of interest to you. The work schedule will be hybrid, three days a week in the office and two days remote in either of the firm's office locations. The ideal candidate should also possess a green card or be of citizenship. This position pays $75.00 per hour on a w-2 hourly basis or $85.00 per hour on a Corp basis. The Corp rate is for independent contractors only and not third-party firms. No Visa entanglements and no H1-B holding companies.The main responsibilities of a Mainframe zOS DB2 Systems Programmer include ensuring subsystem reliability, availability, and serviceability; providing technical expertise and guidance for both infrastructure and application design, supporting, installing/upgrades and diagnosing all DB2 and DB2-related OEM products, and performance tuning. Candidates for this position must be very flexible and responsive to the changing platform. The successful candidate will be self-motivated, capable of working independently or on a team, a strategic thinker, and results-oriented. He/she will be coordinating projects with technical teams in a high-paced service-oriented environment and provide on-call support as required. He/she should be capable of handling high-risk and high-visibility situations with ease. Strong overall diagnostic and problem-solving skills, and excellent verbal and written communication skills are required.Responsibilities include monitoring DB2 system storage, memory, I/O and CPU resources, designing performance improvements. Evaluating and recommending innovative technological solutions to meet new/existing business requirements. Performing daily checklists, reviewing daily Db2 reports for anomalies, opening ServiceNow tickets to application groups for problem resolution.

Providing timely resolution to DB2 software-related problems. Working with IBM and ISV vendor Level 2 and technical support teams to identify DB2 software-related problems. Responding to S1 calls. Evaluating all components within DB2 for stability or errors. Driving problem source identification to root cause, providing workarounds, and designing preventive measures. Creating and maintaining DB2 Systems SOPs and Runbooks according to the provided format. Participating in the planning and recovery of the DB2 subsystems as part of Disaster Recovery. Utilizing ServiceNow ticketing process for change control. Completing checklists for systems tasks and submitting change controls for review in a timely manner. Managing DB2 Catalog/directory, WLM, bufferpools, zparms, PROCS, RLF, RTS. Building new subsystems or relocating existing ones upon request. Assisting in the implementation of Data Studio + debugger. Providing technical expertise and guidance to the internal DB2 community.

Contributing to the ongoing development of monitoring and trending metrics for DB2 using MainView shipped SMF database. Managing DB2 reorgs, runstats, rebinds, PROCS, RTS, RLF, stored procedures. Participating in writing REXX for automation/autonomics for preventative, corrective, and predictive measures for outage avoidance. Performance tuning tablespaces, partitions, indexes. Assisting the application staff in preparing well-tuned SQL for the business. Understanding the difference between Explain, and run-time access path determination. Diagnosing performance issues, considering data distribution, cardinality, join structures, bufferpools, and data sharing members. Using SMPE, IBMLINK, and ShopZSeries, upgrading and applying maintenance to IBM and BMC DB2 products. Performing project planning and management of software upgrades & product implementation to support DB2 environments. Installing, supporting and customizing licensed DB2 software and related tools (client & 3rd party vendors). Upgrading DB2 subsystem environments to newly released versions. Receiving, applying and propagating software fixes across supported DB2 platforms, using SMP/E, etc. Coordinating maintenance and upgrades implementation with affected applications.

Performing OEM problem analysis and resolution. Maintaining OEM documentation. Creating and maintaining documentation in support of the DB2 environments (e.g. Procedures, SOPs, Change Control, etc.). Implementing advanced features/function of DB2 software (e.g. DB2 Data Sharing, native XML, etc.). Maintaining DB2 at optimal maintenance levels, applying PTFs as needed. Coordinating maintenance and upgrades implementation with affected applications. Performing DB2 problem analysis and resolution.Qualifications: Minimum 10 years as a z/OS Systems Programmer for DB2. Hours: 8 am - 5 pm EST, with some weekend activities to support the software maintenance.
