z/OS Programmer AnalystLocation: Austin, TX Contract duration: 12+ MonthsThe Railroad Commission of Texas seeks an experienced z/OS Systems Programmer to provide administrative support for agency mainframe system and services. Work involves highly advanced (senior-level) systems administration in support of agency mainframe application and supporting infrastructure; and coordinate day-to-day system administration functions such as mainframe configuration, break/fix system support, base user account creation/support, and backups. Routine system administration functions to include security administration support, performance monitoring, security monitoring, and system maintenance. Work includes supporting data entry and control work processes, overseeing and coordinating mainframe operations in the State’s Consolidated Data Center Services (DCS), and working with the Network Administration, Customer Support and Applications Development & Support teams to provide support necessary for day-to-day mainframe operations.
Experience with Informatica Power Exchange Administration for Change Data Capture processing using mainframe data sources and targets (i.e., IMS and VSAM) a plus.Key Responsibilities and Duties:Act as support and subject matter expert for z/OS operating systems and system components; provide direct technical support as needed in the planning, coordination, implementation and testing of releases, upgrades, or changes to z/OS operating system, network, and component software.Primary support for assigned Independent Software Vendor (ISV) products such as BlueZone.Support for CPU hardware including planning and coordination of firmware upgrades, troubleshooting efforts and other hardware support.Assist with 24×7 on call support for enterprise-wide z/OS platform systems and ISV products.Diagnose z/OS platform system and product issues and follow up with root cause analysisAnalyze performance issuesSupport for technical consultation and inquiries from the other IT technical teamsSupport for new product installation and evaluation as neededAct as technical lead on internal team projects or participate on project teams that impact the z/OS platform.Assist with capacity planningAssist with system-wide performance tuning to meet required levels of serviceIntegration-testing new products with existing applications and user proceduresProvide mainframe middleware support for CICS® and IMS™.Oversee system parameters and system libraries managementRequired:z/OS Systems Programming experiencePreferred:Experience with Informatica Power Exchange AdministrationWorking knowledge for each of the following:z/OS Operationz/OS Unix System Services (OWVS)Experience with REXXJES2 Operation and Internalsz/OS Security - TSS (Top Secret Security)z/OS Networking – VTAM (Virtual Telecommunications Access Method), TCP/IP (Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol)z/OS-centric automated job scheduling and management software (JOBTRAC)Terminal Emulator Software (BLUEZONE)VTAM Session Manager Software (VTAM/SWITCH)SMP/ERMF (Resource Measurement Facility)SMF (System Management Facility)SMS (Storage Management Subsystem)WLM (Workload Management)JCL (Job Control Language)GRS (Global Resource Serialization)VSAM (Virtual Storage Access Method)
