Z/OS Mainframe Systems ProgrammerLocation: Woodlawn, MDDuration: Long TermEducation / Experience: Doctorate and 03 years' experience, Masters and 05 years' experience, Bachelors and 07 years' experienceDescription of WorkThis position requires work 4 days between Monday-Friday (1st shift) with option to choose which day you are off during week, then work Saturday 10pm Sunday 6am or Sunday 2am 10am for the 5th day.Provides the analysis, design, development, implementation, and support of mainframe system software including operating systems, multi-user utilities, locally prepared subroutines, and vendor proprietary software for the mainframe environment.Provides technical analysis for problem determination and coordination of mainframe hardware systems and mainframe software problems, employs problem analysis and resolution techniques, and analyzes the most difficult problems and determines the most effective methods of resolution.Develops planning documents in accordance with the objectives of the Agency and the work plan of the Division. Reviews and assesses existing standards and policies in order to initiate and coordinate necessary revisions, deletions, or improvements.Designs extensions and enhancements to mainframe operating systems software to support current, revised and new functional requirements.Designs, develops, implements, and supports automated management techniques, enhancements, and procedures for operations, job scheduling, and storage media for mainframe environments.Prepares and presents oral and written recommendations to management on the feasibility of implementing new or revised operating systems software. Develops supporting documentation materials for the justification and acquisition of operating systems software.Reviews and analyzes operating and network standards and policies as they relate to the changing technology, making expert recommendations for enhancement through reconfiguration and future procurements; and maintains an awareness of organizational, legislative, administrative, and technological changes that affect and impact future planning.Prepares plans for emergency situations and disaster recovery.Basic Qualifications:Bachelor's Degree and 7 years of relevant work experience; OR Masters and 5 year of relative experience; OR 11 years of relevant work experience in lieu of a degree.Minimum of 3 years of Mainframe Systems Programming experienceMinimum of 3 years of experience installing and maintaining Z/OS and/or Subsystems or program productsMinimum of 3 years of experience programming in REXX and/or SAS on a mainframeMinimum of 3 years of experience doing IPL on mainframeMust be US Citizen or US Permanent Resident (Green card holder)Must be able to obtain and maintain a US Public Trust clearancePreferred Qualifications:Experience using customized mainframe system software options and parametersExperience with analyzing, developing, planning and performing mainframe operating system software installation and maintenanceExperience with tools such as SMP/E to perform mainframe software installation and maintenanceExperience with HCD to perform mainframe hardware configurations, installation and maintenanceExperience with implementing, testing, and verifying mainframe softwareExperience with identifying, analyzing and resolving mainframe software problemsExperience with mainframe tools such as RMF, SMF, IPCS, Abend-Aid, File-Aid, SYSLOGs, etc., to resolve software problemsExperience with coordinating operating system software problem determination and resolution in a mainframe SYSPLEX environmentExperience with writing and debugging JCL and REXX/CLISTsStrong knowledge of systems performance and tuning.Strong problem-solving skills
