Founded in 1977 in San Francisco’s Tenderloin District, the Southeast Asian Development Center, formerly Vietnamese Youth Development Center (VYDC), is a nonprofit organization dedicated to lifting children, youth, and families from Cambodia, Laos, and Vietnam out of poverty. TheYouth ProgramEducator(YPE)develops strong, nurturing relationships with kindergarten through 12 th grade ,the majority of whom are new to the United States.TheYPEprovidesday-to-day academic support,facilitatesenrichment activities, andmaintainscommunications with families, school day staff, and community partners.The YPE isflexible with varying schedules and activities during the week.
About Youth Development:
Theobjectiveis to prepare youth in kindergarten through 12th grade to be college and career ready. Project activities include daily out-of-school time, during the school year and summer with the focus on tutoring, homework support, life skills, enriching social and cultural experiences, teen leadership development, career exploration, and job placements.
Position Title: Youth Program Educator
Compensation:
$22-26 hour DOE ** Employee transferring may retain existing payrate
Nonexempt; Full time, expected hours of work 37.5 hours per week

- Facilitate implementation of after school and summer programs for youth, Monday–Friday, including daily chaperoningand homework help.
- Support youth in developing the skills they need to be successful in school and life.
- Promote a safe and positive learning environment.
- Plan andfacilitateculturally relevantlesson plans,workshops,and activities focused on identity,leadership, academic enrichment and health and wellness.
- Supervise a minimum of 10 students daily with various activitiesat the office and outside in the community
- Dailyfood prep and service to youth.
- Support the recruitment of youth for after-schooland summer programming to reach participation targets, including schooland neighborhoodoutreach.
- Support and build strong rapport with program participants to ensure retention and programsuccess.
- Communicate and work collaboratively with Program ManagerandYouth Developmentmembers.
- Maintain regular communications with families, school-day staff, and community partners.
- Identifyparticipants needingadditionalsocial and emotional one-on-one supporttoteam.
Administrative & Project Support (25%)
- Purchase program materials and suppliesandmaintainclassroom organization/cleanliness.
- Assistwith supervising volunteers and youth workers.
- Daily data entry, including but not limited to food service, Salesforce client data, funder-required reporting.Attend agency events and meetings, team meetings,and professional developmenttraining; attendtrainingrequired byfunder.
- Assistwith organizing andfacilitatingagency-wide events and activities.
- Collaboratewith non-Youth Developmentstaffon relevant youth-centric programming.
- Other duties assigned bysupervisor.
Qualifications
Education:
Required Skills and Experience:
- 1or more years’ experience working with diverse students in kindergarten through 12 th grade.
- Provide support to youth in 1:1 and small groups, up to 10 youth simultaneously. Able to supervise youth at ratio of 1 staff to 10 youth minimum
- Demonstrate effectiveness inclassroom management, including after school and summer programming
- Work effectively individually and in a team setting with or without supervision
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with both youth and adults
- Proficiencywith Microsoft 365 Office applications including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook
- Experience with data entry and CRM systems, preferably Salesforce
- Familiarity with project management platforms and online communications platforms such as Teams
- Must have adaptability to adopt new software and technologies andparticipatein the development of new such systems
Desired Skills and Experiences:
- Bilingual and literate in Spanish, Arabic, Khmer, Lao, Thai, or Vietnamese language
- Formal education or certification in Early Childhood Education, includingtopics such associal-emotional learning, literacy development
- Experience working withschools and/orcommunity organizations, NPOs
- Knowledge of youth development principles
Additional Qualities and Requirements
- Passion for the organization's mission and values.
- Attend meetings, trainings, and organizational events outside regular business hours, including occasional evenings and weekends, and travel locally as required. This includes participation in the annual staff strategic planning offsite, staff appreciation event and fundraising events.
- Successfully complete fingerprinting background check and TB clearance before start date.
- Must be authorized to work in the United States.
