Job Details and Responsibilities
The X-Ray Technologist performs imaging exams to assist in diagnosing and treating medical conditions. This role involves positioning patients, operating imaging equipment, and ensuring the accuracy and quality of images. The X-Ray Technologist typically reports to the Director of Radiology and works closely with radiologists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals.
Responsibilities
- Patient Preparation and Positioning
- Explain imaging procedures to patients to reduce anxiety and obtain cooperation.
- Position radiographic equipment at the correct angle and height over the appropriate area of the patient’s body.
- Ensure patient comfort and safety during imaging procedures.
- Imaging Procedures
- Operate radiologic and magnetic imaging equipment to produce images of the body for diagnostic purposes.
- Follow physicians’ orders precisely and conform to regulations concerning the use of radiation.
- Administer contrast media and medications within the accepted scope of practice.
- Image Evaluation and Quality Control
- Review and evaluate developed X-rays or computer-generated images to determine if they are satisfactory for diagnostic purposes.
- Perform quality control checks on imaging equipment to ensure it is safe and in working order.
- Maintain accurate patient records and documentation.
- Patient Care and Support
- Monitor patients’ conditions and reactions during and after imaging procedures.
- Address any patient concerns or adverse reactions promptly.
- Provide post-procedure instructions and support to patients.
- Administrative Duties
- Maintain radiology supplies inventory by checking stock, anticipating future needs, and placing orders.
- Ensure a clean and organized working environment in the imaging suite.
- Participate in team meetings and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
Required Qualifications
- Associate's Degree in Radiologic Technology or a related field
- At least 2 year(s) of experience in radiology or medical imaging
- Certification as a Radiologic Technologist (ARRT)
- Texas Medical Board (TMB) licensure
Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Radiologic Technology or a related field
- At least 3 year(s) of experience in Radiology Tech or in a similar role
- Certification in MRI or CT imaging
