Summary of Position : The Early Learning Success Coach (Success Coach) works with program participants during their time in the pathway program and up to 6 months after successfully completing the program, in order to ensure that program participants are successful in achieving their educational goals and are retained in their chosen pathway. The Success Coach provides mentoring and support to the program participants. Under the direction of the Program Director, the Success Coach contributes to the development and implementation of the on-the-job learning and teacher preparation program, including providing support services such as coordinating child care, tutoring, information and referral and other supports.
Primary Responsibilities Include:
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Deliver high quality programming that achieves the educational, administrative and service delivery goals.
  • Support cohort and apprenticeship program participant progress.
  • Document student's academic information which may include test scores, attendance and tardy record, support services, class schedules, progress report grades, grade deficiencies, appropriate email address, etc.
  • Establish a rapport with apprentices and serve as a mentor, encouraging them to do well academically while balancing their life with work, family, etc., teaching them appropriate classroom behavior, dressing for success and being responsible, including providing soft skills training.
  • Motivate apprentices toward self-sufficiency by maintenance of their education and training, upgrade of skills, development of self-confidence, and positive self-image.
  • Meet regularly with the apprentices' instructors, school counselors, and others as needed for group and individual support.
  • Participate in Department and other Wu Yee Children's Services meetings.
  • Establish a rapport with internal and external partners to improve the apprentices on the job training experiences, including the coordination of regular site visits and strength-based coaching services.
  • Keep track of the apprentices' job performance on a weekly basis.
  • Contribute to the development and administration of existing and potential grant-funded• Initiatives (e.g., grant proposals, quarterly reports, program budgets, tracking invoices and expenditures).
  • Coordinate and/or provide apprentices' support services, including child care, tutoring, transportation, etc. for evening and weekend classes and events.
  • Must be available to work some evenings and weekends when apprenticeship classes maybe in session. Core hours to be determined.
  • Other duties and special projects as assigned.
WORK ENVIRONMENT - PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  • Sufficient strength, agility and mobility to perform essential functions and to supervise program activities in a wide variety of indoor and outdoor locations
  • Must be able to work on a computer for an extended period of time
  • Must be able to travel locally for meetings, training and special events

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • BA degree in Child Development and/or Early Childhood Education
  • 2 years of experience in child development, professional development, family engagement, academic guidance, mentoring and program design/implementation
  • Experience working with 2 and 4-year colleges/universities
  • Experience serving dual language and Immigrant populations, non-traditional college students, first generation college students, and low-income workers is preferred
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Criminal record clearance and health requirements that include physical exam, TB and immunizations
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook and other computer programs necessary to perform the duties of the job
  • Bilingual Spanish/English preferred
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS - PHYSICAL POSITION REQUIREMENTS; MACHINES AND/OR EQUIPMENT USED:
  • Must be PC literate; MS Office skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Regularly required to operate standard office equipment (personal computer, photocopy machine, fax machine, etc.)
  • Ability to work on a computer be up to 7 hours a day.
  • Regularly required to sit for long periods of time, and occasionally stand and walk.
  • Regularly required to use hands to operate computer and other office equipment.
  • Close vision required for computer usage.
  • Occasionally required to stoop, kneel, climb, and lift 5-10 pounds.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • Standard office environment without unpleasant or hazardous conditions. Work entails typical physical demands involved in office work.
