A well-established litigation firm is seeking a Workers' Compensation Defense Attorney to join its growing practice. This is an excellent opportunity for an attorney with 0-5 years of experience who is interested in developing hands-on litigation skills, managing files independently, and working closely with insurance clients and policyholders in a supportive, team-oriented environment.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a caseload from initial assignment through file closure.
  • Review files and conduct legal analysis of claims, defenses, and case strategy.
  • Represent insurance companies and their policyholders in workers' compensation and related defense matters.
  • Provide legal counsel and representation in proceedings, arbitrations, trials, and appeals.
  • Communicate regularly with clients and provide timely case status updates.
  • Conduct legal research and develop effective defense strategies.
  • Attend court appearances, arbitration hearings, and other case-related proceedings.
  • Take and defend depositions of fact and expert witnesses.
  • Draft pleadings, motions, briefs, discovery, correspondence, and other legal documents.
  • Assist with expert witness retention, trial preparation, and trial attendance.
  • Meet an annual billable hour requirement of 1800 hours.
  • Travel as needed for hearings, depositions, and other case-related matters.

Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor degree from an ABA-accredited law school.
  • Admission to the Illinois State Bar.
  • 0-5 years of litigation, workers' compensation, insurance defense, or related experience.
  • Strong analytical, research, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage deadlines, prioritize responsibilities, and work independently.
  • Interest in building practical litigation experience in a defense-focused practice.

Compensation

The anticipated salary range for this position starts at $70,000 depending on experience and qualifications.
