Workers' Comp Defense Attorney


Experience: Mid Level


Salary: $140,000 - $220,000 per year

Key Responsibilities


  • Manage a varied docket of workers’ compensation files from intake through trial
  • Draft and file pleadings, motions and discovery documents in administrative forums
  • Conduct depositions and appear at mandatory settlement conferences, hearings and trials
  • Strategize with claims adjusters, in-house counsel and risk managers to advance favorable outcomes
  • Negotiate resolutions and draft settlement agreements that protect client interests
  • Maintain precise, timely billing entries to satisfy monthly targets
  • Mentor junior lawyers and collaborate with support staff to streamline workflows

Qualifications


  • Active membership in the California bar
  • Minimum of three years defending workers’ compensation claims for employers or carriers
  • Demonstrated ability to bill north of 180 hours per month consistently
  • Strong litigation skills, sound case-assessment abilities and practical judgment
  • Exceptional written drafting and oral advocacy
  • Capacity to juggle multiple matters and keep case files organized
  • Familiarity with case management software and electronic filing systems
