Work Study Office AssistantThe Division for Student Life is looking for an Office Assistant to support the Staff Assistant, Administrative Assistant, and Directors within the Student Life office. Hours for this position will be scheduled between Monday and Friday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. In this role, Office Assistants will:Communicate professionally through face-to-face interactions, phone calls, and emailParticipate in job-based learning through a combination of hands-on experience, online training, and asking questions to support understanding of the roleGain a broader understanding of student life and university departmentsRepresent the Division for Student Life in all interactions with visitors and callersPractice confidentiality and professionalism when engaging in all communications and handling sensitive information, particularly student-related mattersCore responsibilities:Front Desk & Customer Service Support: Serve as the first point of contact for the Student Life main office by answering phone calls, greeting and assisting walk-in visitors, and responding to emails via Microsoft Outlook. Provide a welcoming and helpful experience to students, staff, families and/or supporters.
Direct inquiries to appropriate office with connecting visitors or callers with campus resources. Assists the Center for Student Support by welcoming students arriving for appointments, connecting with the Director on inquiries, and assisting students with scheduling appointments when needed. Monitor and professionally respond to shared office inboxes. Demonstrate confidentiality when handling student information and inquiries.Clerical & Administrative Tasks: Perform basic clerical tasks such as printing, scanning, copying, and organizing documents.
Create and format documents, surveys, spreadsheets, and forms using Canva and Microsoft Office tools (Excel, Forms, PowerPoint, Teams, Word). Maintain office organization with supplies and swag items.Marketing & Content Creation: Use Canva to design flyers, brochures, marketing material, presentations, and social media content that may include reels, stories, posts.Event & Program Support: Assist with event setup, logistics, and breakdown for programs. Support divisional tasks, special projects, and office-wide initiatives. Support BSU Food Pantry needs at random with food deliveries or other pantry needs.Eligibility requirements:Must be a Bridgewater State University undergraduate student registered for a minimum of six credits for the Fall 2026 semester.Must have Work Study award in your financial aid package.Preferred Qualifications:Friendly and professional customer service skillsProficient experience using Canva in creating various content/documentsComfortable using Microsoft programs (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams, Word) and basic computer technologyStrong attention to detailDependable and able to arrive on time and consistently for scheduled shiftsPositive attitude and willingness to learnStrong verbal and written communication skillsAbility to manage multiple tasks and priorities within a shiftAbility to work respectfully with people from different backgrounds and experienceCommitted to creating a welcoming and inclusive environment within our officePhysical Demands:Delivery of food pantry produce/items with the use of a hand truckOccasional deliveries across campus to divisional offices pulling a wagonOccasional lifting of storage bins to and from closet areasSpecial Conditions for Eligibility:Please be aware that employment at Bridgewater State University is contingent upon completion of a successful background check.
