Wireless EngineerDuration: 6 monthsLocation: Washington DC - onsite (local candidates)Engineer 1 (Wireless Engineer) Position requires the design of effective and efficient, high throughput, wireless systems in challenging outdoor and indoor environments. The primary focus is on 2.4GHz and 5GHz 802.11 technologies, however, knowledge of other wireless technologies, including CSS and FHSS, is also essential. This job category will have three levels: Entry, Mid-Level, and Senior.

Based on the interview results, will determine which category a candidate will be assigned.Responsibilities:Task Management. Working directly with a manager, will manage tasks, milestones, and deliverables for wireless service integration. Projects include tasks performed by both in-house staff and contractors.

This may involve delegating tasks to staff, gathering information from staff to produce status reports, and working with staff directly to complete projects as needed.Preparing detailed written reports with cost estimates, timelines, and technical strategies.Preparing presentations, including recommended courses of action concerning the results of impact analysis of design decisions against current and future network requirements.Analyzing customer requirements for additional network services, such as wireless access points and integration of wireless hardware with voice and data network communications hardware.Acts as the primary point of contact for the wireless technology component for the NCS department. Responsible for ensuring all deliverables provided by in-house staff and contractors are delivered accurately and on time.Qualifications:Knowledge of radio frequency theory and wave propagationKnowledge of antenna fundamentalsAbility to resolve and/or control radio frequency interference from co-channel and outside interference sourcesAbility to perform active and passive site surveys and apply data from surveys to create effective wireless designsKnowledge of and experience using propagation analysis software to create designsKnowledge of and experience using spectrum analyzers to assess environmentsAbility to perform site surveys to qualify and optimize wireless designsExtensive knowledge of Cisco wireless controllers, including the Cisco 5500 seriesAbility to create new wireless LANs, configure anchor controllers, FlexConnect APs, and wireless security and authenticationThorough knowledge of Cisco wireless access points, including the 1550 and 3600 seriesAbility to deploy and configure lightweight and autonomous access pointsThorough knowledge of Cisco Prime or WCSThorough knowledge of Cisco Mobility Services EngineThorough knowledge of switches and routers, including knowledge of trunks and aggregated portsKnowledge of networking fundamentals, including subnets, protocols, and standardsThorough knowledge of 802.1X/802.11i standardsKnowledge of firewall applications and usesAbility to configure WLANs using PEAP and RADIUS serversAbility to use tools to detect rogue access pointsAbility to use tools to detect various forms of wireless attacksAbility to create custom test networks and WLANs for lab testing of new devicesAbility to measure performance and impact of devices using data collection tools in Prime or other monitoring systemsAbility to measure performance and impact of devices using throughput measuring toolsAbility to measure performance and impact of devices using spectrum analyzersKnowledge of and ability to use Cisco debug commands to analyze issuesKnowledge of and ability to use spectrum and 802.11 analyzersKnowledge of and ability to use data collection tools in WCS or Cisco Prime to detect and resolve issuesKnowledge of and ability to use various wireless client tools to detect and resolve issuesRecent verifiable experience designing, developing, implementing, and supporting Wireless systems, utilizing a Cisco wireless technology for transit industry customers, along with the following minimum position requirements. 10 years of wireless design experience with no less than 5 years designing 802.11 networksKnowledge of radio frequency theoryUnderstanding of wave propagationKnowledge of antenna theoryExperience with and ability to use Propagation analysis softwareExperience with and ability to use spectrum analyzers and 802.11 analyzers
