The Winch Truck Driver must have heavy haul driving experience and will be primarily responsible for driving assigned equipment to and from customer sites, requiring loading, unloading, and transporting cargo appropriately per company job safety analysis (JSA), standard operating procedures (SOP) and the federal and state requirements of the Department of Transportation (DOT) and Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV) standards.
Responsible driving will include a winch truck pulling 40-foot floats and may include heavy hauling and set up of reverse units and other completions equipment to rig sites. Additionally, this position may support in-shop work and maintenance, deliveries and other duties as required.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Transport and drive equipment between Axis facility and customer work site and location.
  • Perform all transportation truck driver duties safely, following company policies, JSA and SOP.
  • Conduct and document pre-trip and post-trip inspections on assigned vehicle and equipment.
  • Loading, unloading, and securing all types of equipment and cargo.
  • Complete job work tickets and DOT logs.
  • Clean and maintain assigned truck and equipment during and after each use.
  • May perform minor emergency road service if applicable; required to report any repairs or safety-related issues to management immediately.
  • Maintain and properly use personal protective equipment (PPE) as assigned and trained.
  • May assist in the shop or yard as needed.
  • Required to safely radio or phone contact with supervisor or dispatcher on delivery and equipment instruction or any route changes.
  • Notifies supervisor within 24 hours of any driving violations on and off work.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by management.
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent education.
  • Must have valid, active state-issued Class A commercial driver license (CDL), endorsements a plus.
  • Minimum two (2) years heavy haul truck driver experience with winch and flatbed trucks.
  • Working knowledge in mechanical maintenance of diesel engine and components repair.
  • Understands and abides by all applicable DOT rules and regulations, including state and interstate highway laws.
  • Mobility and ability to use ladders or other access devices up to 15 ft.; ability to bend, stoop, twist, stand, squat, crawl and walk.
  • Must be able to lift to 75 lbs.
  • Work may be performed in all weather conditions, and understand when it is safe to drive, despite adverse weather conditions.
  • Ability to effectively communicate, both verbally and written; English preferred.
  • Ability to interact with others in a team environment.
  • Basic writing, math, and computer skills.
  • Must be able to work a varied schedule and shifts and travel as job requires.
  • Reliable telephone (cell phone) communication and transportation.
  • Ability to clear/pass DOT drug and alcohol pre-employment testing requirements.
  • Ability to clear/pass DOT compliant post offer physical and job-relevant screens.
Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • Lift up to 75 lbs. frequently.
  • Climb ladders or access equipment up to 20 ft. and work at heights on equipment.
  • Stand and/or walk for approximately 6-8 hours during a shift.
  • Frequently bend, kneel, stoop, reach, push, and pull while performing rigging, loading, unloading, and equipment-securement duties.
  • Maintain strong grip strength, approximately 80-100 lbs., for rigging operations, winch controls, chains, binders, slings, shackles, cables, and other load-securement equipment.
  • Work primarily outdoors in all weather conditions, including temperature extremes.
  • Work in high-noise environments that may require hearing protection.
  • Perform occasional confined-space work and use assigned PPE as required.
  • Maintain current DOT medical certification and be medically qualified to operate a commercial motor vehicle in accordance with applicable FMCSA requirements, including 49 CFR 391.41, and safely perform essential job functions related to commercial driving, heavy hauling, rig-up/rig-down support, and equipment transport.
