This position is responsible for understanding, supporting, and assisting the operational teams assigned with client specific tasks, standards, specifications, and thorough understanding of all department operating policies and procedures.Roles and Responsibilities:Welds components in flat, vertical, or overhead positionsWorks with specialized equipment including welding and other necessary toolsWorks safely around backhoes, excavators, trenchers, and dump trucksCleans and prepares construction sites to eliminate possible hazardsLays out, positions, aligns, and secures parts and assemblies prior to assembly, using straightedges, combination squares, calipers, and rulersExamines workpieces for defects and measures work pieces with straightedges or templates to ensure conformance with specificationsClamps, holds, tack-welds, heat-bends, grinds, or bolts component parts to obtain required configurations and positions for weldingSelects and installs torches, torch tips, filler rods, and flux, according to welding chart specifications or types and thicknesses of metalsDetermines required equipment and welding methods, applying knowledge of metallurgy, geometry, and welding techniquesMonitors the fitting, burning, and welding processes to avoid overheating of parts or warping, shrinking, distortion, or expansion of materialAnalyzes engineering drawings, blueprints, specifications, sketches, work orders, and material safety data sheets to plan layout, assembly, and welding operationsMarks or tags material with proper job number, piece marks, and other identifying marks as requiredPrepares all material surfaces to be welded, ensuring that there is no loose or thick scale, slag, rust, moisture, grease, or other foreign matterPreheats work pieces using torches to then guide and directs flames or electrodes on or across work pieces to connect pipeDetects faulty operation of equipment or defective materials and notifies supervisorsCleans or degreases parts, using wire brushes, and portable grindersSuccess Factors:Ability to perform heavy manual labor for extended periods, often under adverse climatic conditions.Ability to lift up to 80 lbs multiple times during a work shiftAbility to climb, dig, work in tight spaces, on uneven surfaces, walking, stooping, and kneelingAbility to understand and follow specific oral and written instructionsAbility to work well independently and as a part of a team with co-workersAbility to pass motor vehicle, criminal background check, and comply with drug-free workplace policyEnglish usage sufficient to keep records, place orders, and prepare simple narrative reportsWillingness and ability to learn additional skillsExperience and Education:High school diploma or equivalent desiredPrevious Welding ExperienceBilingual English/Spanish is a plusAdditional Requirements/Licenses/Certifications:Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid State of Residence Driver's License is required within two weeks of employment.Candidates must pass criminal and Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) background checks and pass a pre-employment drug screen.Notes:The statements herein are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by employees and are not to be construed as an exhaustive list of responsibilities, duties, and skills required of personnel so classified.
