Welder IIPerform welds on components to exacting specifications, as part of the manufacture of large, custom, special purpose vehicles, working within the limits of standard or accepted practice.Essential functions include working from shop orders, specifications, prints and instructions; reviewing material and product requirements; ensuring that parts are cut and prepared as prescribed; setting parts in assembly fixture, position, layout and clamp in place in specified orientation to ensure dimensional accuracy; selecting welding parameters per specified weld procedures; working in teams and following work instructions to ensure that heat is contained in limited area to minimize unit distortion; fitting, tack, and welding joints in specific locations with designated welding procedure specifications and configuration to ensure compliance with weld size, weld continuity, fill, distortion and cosmetic requirements; manipulating large, heavy units as required to accommodate efficient welding operations; making visual and dimensional check of work and documenting as required; moving work to succeeding work area to maintain workflow; notifying supervisor of unusual equipment or operating problems; supporting training and orientation programs for new and transferring employees and reporting on results.Other duties may include performing or assisting with any operations, as required or directed, to maintain workflow or respond to production requirements; following safety rules, ensuring safe operating conditions within area of responsibility and notifying supervisor of unusual operating conditions; attending and participating in a variety of meetings, training programs, and task force groups to integrate activities, communicate issues, obtain approvals, resolve problems and maintain a specific level of knowledge pertaining to changes to equipment or process, new developments, requirements, procedures and policies and assist with the training and orientation of new or transferred employees as directed.Tools and equipment used include hand and hand power tools, tape measure, level, welding machines, fixtures, overhead cranes.Position expectations include safety, quality, flexibility, initiative, teamwork, career development, leadership, action-oriented, conflict management, dealing with ambiguity, and drive for results.Minimum requirements include basic welding knowledge that includes experience or training in GMAW processes; knowledge in Lean Methodologies; and the ability to read and understand basic assembly prints and weld symbols.Physical requirements include lifting/pushing/pulling, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching/crawling/reaching, standing, and walking. The worker is required to have visual acuity to perform an activity such as operating machines, performing mechanical tasks, and operating motor vehicles or heavy equipment.
