Weights Inspector 2 – Weights & Measures

  • Inspect and test the accuracy of large-capacity scales, including vehicle, livestock, hopper, warehouse, and forklift scales
  • Operate test equipment associated with the test unit
  • Drive the scale test unit to inspection sites
  • Enforce Georgia weights and measures laws and related regulations
  • Test, inspect, and determine the accuracy of commercial weighing and measuring devices
  • Investigate consumer complaints related to weights and measures
  • Prepare documentation related to inspections and complaint investigations
  • Perform price verification inspections by confirming marked prices against scanner prices
  • Maintain the State vehicle and all equipment pertaining to the job
  • Work as part of a two-person team
  • Travel overnight occasionally

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Minimum qualification: high school diploma/GED and two years of experience in the area of assignment; or two years of college including specified chemistry or life sciences coursework and two years of directly related experience; or two years of experience at the lower-level Agriculture Inspector 2 or equivalent position
  • Three to five years of experience in the area of assignment should qualify for the Agriculture Inspector 2 / RCT041 position
  • Valid Georgia commercial driver's license (CDL) preferred; if not held, a valid Georgia driver's license and willingness to obtain a CDL within six months of employment
  • Clean driving record
  • Communication and customer service skills
  • Willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions
  • General knowledge of Windows operating systems and basic computer skills
  • Basic mathematical skills
  • Ability to stand for long periods and intermittently walk, squat, kneel, or drive
  • Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs. for short periods
  • Must reside or be willing to relocate to Alma, Axson, Broxton, Hazlehurst, Jesup, or Baxley, within a reasonable distance of the assigned territory
