- Inspect and test the accuracy of large-capacity scales, including vehicle, livestock, hopper, warehouse, and forklift scales
- Operate test equipment associated with the test unit
- Drive the scale test unit to inspection sites
- Enforce Georgia weights and measures laws and related regulations
- Test, inspect, and determine the accuracy of commercial weighing and measuring devices
- Investigate consumer complaints related to weights and measures
- Prepare documentation related to inspections and complaint investigations
- Perform price verification inspections by confirming marked prices against scanner prices
- Maintain the State vehicle and all equipment pertaining to the job
- Work as part of a two-person team
- Travel overnight occasionally
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED required
- Minimum qualification: high school diploma/GED and two years of experience in the area of assignment; or two years of college including specified chemistry or life sciences coursework and two years of directly related experience; or two years of experience at the lower-level Agriculture Inspector 2 or equivalent position
- Three to five years of experience in the area of assignment should qualify for the Agriculture Inspector 2 / RCT041 position
- Valid Georgia commercial driver's license (CDL) preferred; if not held, a valid Georgia driver's license and willingness to obtain a CDL within six months of employment
- Clean driving record
- Communication and customer service skills
- Willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions
- General knowledge of Windows operating systems and basic computer skills
- Basic mathematical skills
- Ability to stand for long periods and intermittently walk, squat, kneel, or drive
- Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs. for short periods
- Must reside or be willing to relocate to Alma, Axson, Broxton, Hazlehurst, Jesup, or Baxley, within a reasonable distance of the assigned territory
