Short Story is hiring a Warehouse Manager to spearhead operational performance in our fulfillment center in South San Francisco. This position is a pivotal leadership role as we scale.

Responsibilities

  • Operations & Standards: Own performance across outbound, returns, new merchandise, and support functions; align functional areas around clear priorities; develop and improve warehouse systems; review performance data.
  • People Leadership: Directly manage Team Leads and Supervisors, developing them into stronger operators; hold the team to clear standards; build a culture of discipline, pride, and urgency on the floor; partner with HR on labor planning.
  • Scaling & Process: Identify and eliminate bottlenecks as the team grows; build repeatable, documented processes; proactively surface risks and propose contingency plans; serve as the operational voice in cross‑functional conversations about capacity, hiring, and tooling.
  • Functional Areas Oversight: Oversee Outbound (picking, folding, packing, shipping, client exchanges); Returns (quality check before reintegration); New Merch (receiving, tagging, binning at 100% accuracy); Support (fulfillment issues, equipment maintenance).

Qualifications

  • 5+ years in warehouse or fulfillment operations management.
  • Track record managing 50–150 people, including supervisors.
  • Strong floor presence, leading from where work happens.
  • Experience enforcing quality standards and holding teams accountable.
  • Proven ability to build or improve processes in a scaling environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office or G Suite; comfortable with WMS or operations tooling.
  • Ability to use operational data for forecasting, labor planning, and basic cost modeling.
  • Must be on site in South San Francisco and eligible to work in the United States.
