Job TitleUnder the general supervision of a site administrator, as coordinated by the Head Coach, assume the responsibility for coaching/training student athletes in the designated sport.Examples of duties and responsibilities:Assist in organizing and coordinating all phases of a sports program including in-season, off-season, and summer.Assist in teaching athletes to perform sound, safe fundamental techniques of a designated sport throughout the season.Ensure adherence to rules and regulations governing high school athletics, as well as school policies.Supervise athletes during practices, at home and away games.Maintain accurate records as required, which could include but not be limited to team lists, score books, statistics, etc.Maintain, inventory and assist in ordering all equipment needed for all phases of a designated sport program.Minimum qualifications:Knowledge of:Planning, organization and directing the designated sportThe training program required for the designated sportThe rules of the designated sportC.I.F. regulations as they apply to the sport and athletic programs as a wholeDistrict policies, regulations and operationsHigh school rules, procedures, and practicesAbility to:Demonstrate strong scheduling and organizational skillsCommunicate effectively with students and parents, orally and in writingDiffuse difficult situations, counsel studentsUse tact, patience and courtesyEffectively supervise studentsApply and explain school rules, regulations, policies and proceduresExperience/Education:Competitive experience in the sport desirablePrevious coaching experience desirablePrevious work with adolescent age students desirableOther certificates/credentials:Current First Aid and CPR certification requiredTeaching credential desirableWorking conditions:Environment:Indoor and outdoor work environmentVariable hoursFrequent afternoon, evening and night workOccasional adverse weather conditionsTravel by busPhysical abilities:Hearing and speaking to exchange informationVisual ability to monitor team workouts and contestsDexterity of hands and fingers to demonstrate applicable sportskill/methodSitting or standing for extended periods of timeMovement over rough or uneven surfacesBending at the waist, running, carrying, pushing or pulling sports equipmentPhysical agility and staminaHazards:Dust, dirt, and pollen, depending upon designated sportPossible work around heavy equipmentPossible exposure to blood borne pathogensDealing with disturbed, angry and emotionally distraught individualsDealing with mild to severe sport injuries
