Job Summary
Manage the day‑to‑day operations of a Walgreens Pharmacy, providing comprehensive pharmacy care, patient counseling, and financial oversight while ensuring compliance with regulatory and company standards.
Responsibilities
- Oversee pharmacy operations, including opening/closing, shift scheduling, and task delegation.
- Provide pharmacy consulting services, addressing medication usage, drug interactions, and patient education.
- Offer preventive and clinical healthcare services such as immunizations, diagnostic testing, and disease‑state management.
- Ensure proper compounding, dispensation, verification, and review of prescribed medications in compliance with regulations and company policies.
- Manage workflow to enhance efficiency, financial performance, inventory management, and patient experience.
- Lead, coach, and develop pharmacy staff through training, performance management, career progression, and engagement initiatives.
- Engage customers with greeting, assistance, complaint resolution, and proactive service offerings, promoting a shift from transactional to interpersonal interactions.
- Supervise financial controls, including register counts, bank withdrawals, armored car pickups, accurate bookkeeping, invoices, cash reports, and time records.
- Oversee merchandising, displays, and promotional activities to optimize product presentation.
- Maintain knowledge of pharmacy systems, prescription fulfillment, billing, clinical documentation, inventory management, and point‑of‑sale technology.
- Process and resolve insurance claims, follow up with insurers and providers, and participate in third‑party audits.
- Conduct clinical and wellness services, such as immunizations, testing, and virtual product reviews according to company procedures.
- Ensure pharmacy premises are clean, well‑maintained, and ready to respond to emergencies.
- Prepare, maintain, and submit required state and federal records, reports, and documentation.
- Recruit, hire, promote, and, when necessary, terminate staff in compliance with corporate and employment laws.
- Facilitate ongoing training compliance, performance feedback, compensation reviews, and employee recognition.
- Communicate regularly with staff through one‑on‑one sessions, group meetings, and open‑dialogue initiatives.
Qualifications
- BS in Pharmacy or PharmD from an accredited institution.
- Current pharmacist licensure in the states within the district.
- Certified immunizer or willingness to become an immunizer within 90 days.
- At least 1 year of retail pharmacy experience, including prescription filling, verification, record‑keeping, compliance, operations, technology, and insurance.
- Strong knowledge of applicable state and federal controlled‑substance laws.
Preferred Qualifications
- Supervisory experience in planning, organizing, and directing pharmacy staff.
- Leadership behavior rating of 3.7 or above on the most recent performance review (internal candidates only).
- At least 6 months of pharmacy experience with Walgreens.
Benefits & Salary
Salary range: $130,275 – $191,209 (annual). Hourly equivalent: $67.05 – $90.55 per hour. Benefits information is available via the Walgreens benefits portal.
