Overview

Join Camunda for a VP, Accounting (Corporate Controller) role to lead and evolve our global Accounting function as we scale toward €500M ARR and continue building a next-generation Finance organization. This role combines strategic leadership with deep technical expertise to architect a scalable, globally distributed Accounting organization while maintaining strong command of complex accounting areas that require executive judgment. As Camunda expands internationally, this role will help ensure our accounting infrastructure scales across jurisdictions and supports growing global operational and regulatory requirements. You will be a key member of the Finance leadership team, reporting to the CFO, and act as a trusted advisor on accounting, controls, and financial infrastructure matters to the business. Camunda operates as a German GmbH consolidating under IFRS, with subsidiaries in the U.S., UK, and Singapore. Our core ERP is NetSuite.

What You\'ll Be Doing

  • Lead the Global Accounting Function: Own the end-to-end accounting engine, including close, reporting, controls, and policy.
  • Ensure accurate, timely IFRS reporting and high-quality audit outcomes.
  • Build a scalable target operating model across people, process, systems, and global footprint.
  • Define and track clear KPIs (close efficiency, control health, audit quality, DSO/DPO, automation impact).

Technical Accounting Leadership

  • Serve as executive subject matter expert on complex accounting topics including revenue recognition, commissions, equity, payroll, intercompany, FX, treasury, and policy interpretation.
  • Shape accounting treatment early in deal design, commission structures, pricing decisions, and global entity strategy.
  • Translate accounting requirements into practical business solutions that balance growth, margin, and risk.

High-Performing Organization

  • Hire, develop, and retain strong leaders and individual contributors.
  • Create clear ownership, accountability, and succession depth.
  • Lead organizational scaling and capability building across distributed teams.
  • Partner with People and Talent Acquisition to define career path frameworks and leadership development plans.

Systems and Controls That Scale

  • Drive automation across accounting workflows in partnership with internal automation teams.
  • Leverage ERP and financial systems to reduce manual effort and increase insight.
  • Own the multi-year systems roadmap (ERP, close, revenue, tax, treasury).
  • Mature the control environment toward SOX readiness, including documentation of key risks and controls.

Enterprise Finance Partner

  • Partner closely with FP&A on long-range planning and scenario modeling. Collaborate with Legal, RevOps, GTM, Product, and G&A leaders on accounting-impacting decisions.
  • Support major events including financing rounds, M&A, or IPO readiness workstreams.

External Relationships

  • Lead auditors, tax advisors, payroll providers, and key external partners.
  • Establish performance standards aligned to cost, quality, and risk objectives.

Leadership & Scope

  • Senior-level experience leading a global Accounting or Controller function in a complex, multi-entity, remote-first environment.
  • Experience leading accounting in a high-growth, recurring-revenue or otherwise complex global business environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead through managers while maintaining technical depth in high-impact areas.
  • Experience building leadership bench strength and succession planning.

Technical Expertise

  • Strong technical accounting judgment across revenue, equity, commissions, payroll, and intercompany structures.
  • Experience in IFRS environments; exposure to U.S. GAAP or public-company reporting environments is a plus.
  • Experience in global payroll and multi-jurisdiction operations.

Systems & Modern Finance Capabilities

  • Strong systems orientation; NetSuite experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience leveraging automation, analytics, or AI-enabled tools to modernize accounting workflows and improve insight quality.
  • Experience partnering with Finance and analytics teams to improve reporting efficiency and data quality.

Transformation & Business Partnership

  • Experience leading teams through scale, transformation, or readiness for major capital events.
  • Ability to influence cross-functional leaders and translate technical requirements into business decisions.
  • Comfortable operating in dynamic environments with evolving priorities.

Compensation & Benefits

We offer competitive, fair, and transparent compensation. Salary ranges are location-based, with Standard and Major markets reflecting local competition. The Annual Total Target Cash (base salary + 100% variable target, where applicable) spans from the minimum in a Standard market to the maximum in a Major market. Final offers depend on skills, experience, and location.

  • United States: $280,000 to $420,000
  • United Kingdom: £204,200 to £306,200
  • Singapore: S$347,800 to S$521,700
  • Canada: C$345,300 to C$517,900
