Role Summary
Triceratops Technology Resources is looking for Volunteer Digital Navigators to help deliver digital skills classes, workshops, and community learning programs. This role supports local community members and nonprofit partners who need help building confidence with technology, digital tools, online resources, and everyday computer skills.
The Volunteer Digital Navigator will help teach basic to advanced digital skills topics, support learners during classes, answer questions, and create a welcoming learning environment for people with different levels of technology experience. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys teaching, public speaking, working with people, and helping community members feel more confident using technology.
Key Responsibilities
- Facilitate digital skills classes, workshops, and community programs
- Teach topics such as computer basics, internet navigation, email, online safety, digital forms, smartphones, productivity tools, and other digital skills topics
- Support learners with different experience levels, from beginner to more advanced users
- Assist community members during hands-on activities, practice time, and guided exercises
- Create a welcoming, patient, and respectful learning environment
- Work with local community members, older adults, youth, low-income communities, nonprofit staff, and other learner groups
- Support nonprofit partners by delivering digital skills training based on community needs
- Help prepare class materials, handouts, activities, and simple learning resources
- Communicate learner needs, challenges, and feedback to program leadership
- Support program setup, sign-in, cleanup, and basic event/class coordination as needed
- Follow organizational guidelines, privacy expectations, and safety requirements
Helpful Skills and Experience
- Experience facilitating, teaching, training, coaching, or leading groups
- Comfortable with public speaking and group facilitation
- Strong people skills and patience when working with learners
- Ability to explain technology in simple, clear, and practical ways
- Comfortable teaching beginner topics such as computer basics, internet use, email, and online forms
- Comfortable learning or teaching more advanced digital skills topics as needed
- Experience working with diverse communities, including older adults, youth, low-income communities, and people with limited technology access
- Strong communication and active listening skills
- Dependable, organized, and able to follow through on commitments
- Respectful of learner privacy, dignity, and confidentiality
Ideal Volunteer
This role may be a good fit for someone who enjoys helping people learn, feels comfortable speaking in front of groups, and can explain technology with patience and encouragement. The ideal volunteer does not need to know everything about technology, but should be comfortable learning, teaching, and supporting people with different needs and skill levels.
Prior experience in teaching, training, customer service, community programs, nonprofit work, workforce development, libraries, schools, technology support, or digital inclusion work is helpful.
