VMWare Infrastructure EngineerThis position follows a hybrid work schedule (work remotely up to 3 days per week).The client is seeking a VMware Infrastructure Engineer who will be responsible for implementing and maintaining a highly available, secure, and resilient enterprise virtualization environment supporting our state client. This individual will play a critical role in ensuring operational stability across VMware-based infrastructure platforms, supporting production systems that require strict uptime, security, and disaster recovery standards. While familiarity with the skills listed is important, the candidate needs to be highly proficient in Windows Server operating system vulnerability remediation.

The client has an existing patching team, but the resource must be able to resolve issues when automated OS patching fails.ResponsibilitiesLog Analysis: Expert-level parsing of CBS.log, DISM.log, and WindowsUpdate.log (via PowerShell).Servicing Stack Knowledge: Deep understanding of Component-Based Servicing (CBS) and the WinSxS folder.Repair Tool Mastery: Advanced use of DISM (including /RestoreHealth with external sources) and SFC utilities.PowerShell Scripting: Ability to automate the resetting of the Windows Update Agent and clearing the SoftwareDistribution cache.Environment Management: Proficient in TaniumStorage & Partitioning: Troubleshooting disk space issues within the System Reserved Partition and Volume Shadow Copies.Security Interoperability: Identifying conflicts between the Trusted Installer service and EDR/Antivirus agentsEnterprise Virtualization Management Administer and manage large-scale VMware environments, including VMware vSphere and VMware vCenter ServerDesign, configure, and maintain ESXi hosts, clusters, and resource poolsOptimize virtual infrastructure performance, capacity, and scalabilityHigh Availability & Disaster Recovery Implement high-availability (HA) and disaster recovery (DR) solutions aligned to RPO/RTO requirementsConfigure and manage disaster recovery technologies (replication, failover, failback)Execute DR testing, failover scenarios, and recovery validationEnsure business continuity across critical applications and infrastructure platformsStorage Integration & Optimization Integrate VMware platforms with enterprise storage (SAN/NAS, vSAN)Manage storage provisioning, replication strategies, and performance tuningCollaborate with storage teams supporting NetApp, Infinidat, or similar platformsCore Infrastructure Services Support dependencies including: DNS, DHCP, IPAMTCP/IP networking and segmentation strategiesSecurity & Compliance Implement security hardening across: Hypervisors (ESXi), Management planes (vCenter, admin tools), East-west traffic controls within virtual environmentsSupport vulnerability remediation and compliance requirements (e.g., SOC-driven scans)Maintain adherence to state and enterprise security policiesOperational Support & Troubleshooting Provide Tier 3 support for production-impacting incidentsPerform root cause analysis and implement long-term corrective actionsParticipate in on-call rotations and after-hours support for critical outagesMaintain operational documentation and standard operating proceduresChange Management & Governance Execute infrastructure changes in accordance with enterprise change management processesDocument design decisions, configurations, and implementation stepsParticipate in CAB reviews and ensure minimal risk to production systemsSupport audit requests and regulatory compliance requirementsMinimum QualificationsBachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)7+ years of experience in enterprise infrastructure engineering5+ years of hands-on VMware experience (vSphere, vCenter, ESXi) in large-scale environmentsDeep expertise in: VMware vSphere, vCenter, and ESXi administration, HA/DR architectures (SRM, replication, backup platforms), Enterprise storage systems (SAN/NAS, vSAN, replication technologies)Strong working knowledge of: DNS, DHCP, IPAM, TCP/IP networking, VLANs, and segmentation, Windows Server and Linux operating systemsExperience with: Backup and recovery tools (e.g., vRanger, Azure Backup or similar), Monitoring and performance tuning toolsVMware certifications (VCP, VCAP, or equivalent)Experience supporting state/local government or regulated environmentsFamiliarity with: NetApp or enterprise storage platforms, Cloud integration (AWS, Azure hybrid environments)ITIL or comparable operational framework certification
