Role Overview:
As UCSF approaches an 80% unionized workforce, the Vice President, Workforce Relations & Compliance will play a pivotal role in transforming and modernizing the Labor & Employee Relations function to meet the organization's evolving needs. This leader will develop a future-ready, strategically aligned function that strengthens organizational capability, enhances partnership with operational leaders, and supports UCSF's long-term workforce strategy.
A key enterprise priority, this role will elevate the maturity of the function by establishing greater visibility into employee and labor relations case management, leveraging data and analytics to identify trends, inform decision-making, and proactively mitigate risk. The Vice President will lead significant change management efforts, fostering collaborative relationships across the organization while increasing understanding of the strategic value that Labor & Employee Relations brings to the business.
The Vice President will lead the transformation of UCSF's Workforce Relations and Compliance function by modernizing operating models, streamlining policies and processes, and creating a more responsive, consistent, and service-oriented organization. Leveraging technology, automation, analytics, and emerging AI-enabled capabilities, this leader will drive operational efficiencies, enhance the employee and manager experience, and position the function to meet the evolving needs of a world-class academic health system.
In addition to leading Workforce Relations, the Vice President will provide enterprise leadership for HR compliance and workforce governance, ensuring consistent application of employment policies, regulatory requirements, and organizational standards across UCSF. This executive will oversee critical people processes- including performance management, compensation governance, workforce policies, and organizational accountability- driving consistency, operational excellence, and an exceptional employee and manager experience while mitigating enterprise risk.
Reporting to the Senior Vice President & Associate Vice Chancellor of Human Resources, the Vice President, Workforce Relations & Compliance serves as the executive leader responsible for workforce relations strategy across both UCSF Health and UCSF Campus.
