Vice President – Major Projects & Dam Safety
Position Summary
The Vice President of Major Projects & Dam Safety reports directly to the Chief Executive Officer
and is responsible for leading the company's Capital Projects and Civil Engineering & Dam Safety
organizations.
This executive is accountable for the planning, execution, and performance of the company's
capital program while ensuring the safe operation, regulatory compliance, and long-term integrity of
all dams and civil infrastructure. The role provides strategic leadership for project delivery,
engineering, dam safety, capital planning, and organizational development.
- Lead the company's capital projects, civil engineering, and dam safety functions.
- Develop and execute long-term strategies for capital investment, infrastructure modernization, and
- asset reliability.
- Advise the CEO and executive leadership team on capital planning, infrastructure risk, and major
- Drive continuous improvement in project execution, engineering practices, and organizational
- performance.
Capital Projects
- Direct execution of the capital portfolio, including major maintenance, rehabilitation, and new
- construction.
- Ensure projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and to quality standards.
- Establish project governance, portfolio prioritization, contracting strategies, risk management, and
- project controls.
- Oversee capital forecasting, resource planning, contractor management, and performance
- metrics.
Dam Safety & Civil Engineering
- Provide executive oversight of the company's Dam Safety Program and civil engineering activities.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations, including FERC
- requirements.
- Maintain engineering standards supporting the long-term safety and reliability of hydroelectric
- assets.
Cross-Functional Leadership
- Partner with Operations, Finance, Regulatory, Environmental, Legal, and Asset Management.
- Present capital program and dam safety updates to executive leadership and the Board of
- Directors.
- Support regulatory interactions and external stakeholder engagement.
Leadership & Talent Development
- Recruit, develop, and retain high-performing engineering and project teams.
- Establish performance expectations and accountability.
- Develop organizational capability and succession planning.
- Lead geographically dispersed teams.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related discipline required.
- Professional Engineer (PE) preferred; advanced degree desirable.
- 15+ years of leadership experience in utilities, power generation, heavy infrastructure, or similar
- Demonstrated success managing large capital programs and multidisciplinary engineering
- organizations.
- Experience in dam safety, hydroelectric assets, or other safety-critical infrastructure preferred.
