Job Description
26North is recruiting a Vice President to serve as the operational and financial backbone of our newly launched private equity business, reporting directly to the business's COO/CFO. This is a builder's role: you will work closely with business development, finance, and the deal teams as a key contributor to the non-investment infrastructure of a new strategy to help manage the business — investment process, fund operations, financial planning and reporting, LP and investor support, vendor and service-provider management, and the day-to-day execution that ensures the investment team can focus on deals.
The ideal candidate is an operator first — someone who takes ownership, builds process where none exists, and closes loops without being asked — paired with genuine fluency in fund mechanics (waterfalls, carried interest, capital calls and distributions, management fee and expense mechanics, IRR and MOIC). This is a unique opportunity for an individual looking to manage a business and ultimately make an outsized impact and help build a growing strategy from the ground up.
Responsibilities
- Run the investment process alongside the deal teams — pipeline and deal-flow tracking, the deal calendar, investment committee scheduling and materials, and follow-through on diligence workstreams, approvals, and closing checklists.
- Monitor industry and sector allocations, deployment pacing, and portfolio construction against the fund's mandate, surfacing exposure and concentration considerations to the deal teams and investment committee.
- Own the operating cadence of the private equity business in partnership with finance — budgeting, forecasting, expense management, and management-company financial reporting to ensure the business is supported.
- Build and maintain the technology required for portfolio monitoring and KPI reporting across portfolio companies, and prepare performance and track-record materials for LPs, the investment committee, and firm leadership.
- Partner with Human Capital, Finance, Legal, Compliance, Tax, and Investor Relations to build and maintain the operating infrastructure required to support a newly launched strategy.
- Serve as the primary interface to fund accounting and fund administration: capital calls, distributions, NAV and valuation packages, waterfall and carried-interest calculations, and fund-level financial reporting.
- Design process and implement systems where none exist today, translating ad-hoc workflows into repeatable, scalable operations.
- Function as a utility player on ad-hoc strategic, operational, and transaction-related projects across the platform.
Qualifications
Experience
- 5–7 years of experience across operations, finance, and/or fund accounting, ideally at a private equity firm or another alternative asset manager.
- Investment banking or private equity experience strongly preferred; exposure to a fund launch or the build-out of a new strategy is a significant plus.
- Demonstrated operator orientation: a track record of building process, systems, and infrastructure in a newly formed or resource-constrained environment.
- Experience managing fund administrators, auditors, tax advisors, and other external service providers.
- Strong working knowledge of fund math and fund structures — waterfalls, carried interest, capital calls and distributions, management fee and expense mechanics, and IRR and MOIC.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and financial modeling; comfort with accounting, reporting, and portfolio monitoring systems.
- Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, with excellent attention to detail and the ability to operate independently across many concurrent workstreams.
- Superb communication skills and the ability to collaborate across investment, finance, legal, compliance, and investor relations teams.
- Strong track record and demonstrated commitment to upholding our core values of Excellence, Stewardship, Teamwork, Integrity, and Respect.
Education
- Bachelor's degree required
