Regional Manager / Vice President – Carolinas

Travel: Approximately 30%

About the Opportunity

A leading utility infrastructure contractor specializing in overhead and underground electric and gas distribution services is seeking an experienced Regional Manager or Vice President to lead its Carolinas operations.

The organization provides utility construction services to investor-owned utilities, cooperatives, municipalities, and federal government agencies and has built a strong reputation for delivering safe, high-quality infrastructure solutions.

Position Overview

Reporting directly to the Chief Operating Officer, the Regional Manager/Vice President will provide strategic and operational leadership for the Carolinas business. This individual will oversee multiple utility service contracts, drive operational performance, ensure safety and quality standards, and support continued growth throughout the Carolinas and surrounding region.

The successful candidate will collaborate closely with senior leadership while managing field operations, customer relationships, financial performance, and business development initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead regional utility construction operations with a focus on safety, quality, customer satisfaction, and profitability.
  • Manage the successful execution of multiple utility contracts while ensuring compliance with customer specifications and contractual requirements.
  • Develop and implement operational improvements that enhance productivity, efficiency, and financial performance.
  • Direct and mentor regional leadership, field personnel, and support staff to build a strong, accountable, and collaborative culture.
  • Oversee workforce planning, scheduling, and performance management for both company crews and subcontractors.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with utility customers and industry partners.
  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities throughout the Carolinas and surrounding markets.
  • Champion a strong safety culture through active leadership, training, and quality assurance initiatives.
  • Manage regional budgets, resources, and operational performance to meet business objectives.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will possess:

  • 15+ years of leadership experience in electric and/or gas utility field operations.
  • Demonstrated success managing multiple utility construction contracts and customer relationships.
  • Strong operational, financial, and analytical leadership skills.
  • Proven experience improving performance through process optimization and effective resource management.
  • Experience leading both internal construction crews and subcontractors.
  • A track record of coaching, mentoring, and developing high-performing teams.
  • Strong understanding of accountability, collaboration, and organizational culture.
  • Extensive technical knowledge of utility distribution construction, including:
  • Overhead and underground power distribution
  • Directional drilling
  • Excavation and line construction
  • Journeyman overhead and underground line work
  • Experience managing system rehabilitation, overhead-to-underground conversions, and grid hardening projects.
  • Strong business development skills with established utility industry relationships preferred.
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, organizational, and computer skills.
  • Ability to operate independently while managing a geographically dispersed business unit.
