Morales Professional Recruitment (MPS) is engaged with an Indianapolis financial and insurance provider to help them locate a Vice President, Finance for the organization. Reporting to the Chief Operations Officer and collaborating with the parent organization CFO, this role will be responsible for leading the finance and accounting functions for entities located in Indianapolis, Kansas City, with elements residing in New York that will be moving to the Indianapolis location.
This role provides strategic and operational leadership across statutory financial reporting, accounting, treasury, regulatory compliance, financial controls, audits, capital oversight, and financial planning activities. It will partner with executive leadership, actuarial, legal, operations, and the parent corporate entity to ensure financial integrity, regulatory compliance, operational efficiency, in support to long-term growth initiatives.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILTIES:
- Financial Leadership: Lead all aspects of insurance operation accounting, including premium accounting, claims reserves, reinsurance settlements, cash management, treasury services, and operational accounting.
- Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes and ensure accuracy and integrity of reporting and support the preparation of consolidated financial statement across all intercompany divisions.
- Assist CFO and parent company on investment income allocations, and consolidated financial packages.
- Ensure the accurate and timely filing of annual and quarterly statutory statements.
- Monitor compliance with Statutory Accounting Principles and other insurance regulatory requirements.
- Provide guidance on the accounting implication of new products and proposed transactions.
- Partner and collaborate with COO and CFO in providing analysis, insights and recommendation supporting operational and strategic business decisions. Support budgeting, forecasting, liquidity planning and financial performance.
- Serve as primary contact for auditors and financial examinations and manage the preparation of audited financial statements.
- Oversee banking relationships, treasury operations and cash management.
- Directly manage subordinates and develop and mentor finance team.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting of Finance required with at least 10+ years of progressive finance and accounting experience within the life insurance or financial services sectors. Must have strong leadership skills, strategically focused but tactically driven, hands-on executive leadership. Other attributes, include:
- Deep understanding of Statutory Accounting Principles, insurance financial reporting and regulatory requirements.
- Working knowledge of GAAP life insurance accounting principles, including reinsurance and treaty settlements.
- Ability to research SAP accounting issues, interpret technical guidance, and reach well-supported conclusions.
- Strong understanding of general ledger systems, internal controls, control design, treasury management, and multi-entity accounting environments; experience with insurance accounting systems is a plus.
- Proven ability to collaborate across geographically dispersed teams and operate effectively in a matrixed organization.
- Strong leadership, analytical, and strategic thinking skills with the ability to balance operational execution and long-term planning.
