Remote Contract General

Vice President Accounting and ControllerThe Vice President Accounting and Controller is a senior member of the Finance team responsible for overseeing the agency's day to day financial operations, ensuring compliance, optimizing workflow and providing strategic financial guidance.Responsibilities:Oversee all accounting operations, including payables, receivables, payroll and tax preparationPreparation and oversight of the agency's month end / year-end close processes and yearly financial statements with footnotes according to GAAP and FASBWork closely with audit firm during annual auditsCollaborate with VP Finance, Grants & Budget in managing monthly financial reporting including financial statements, budget vs. actual analysis, and business metricsAnalyze monthly financial results and prepare monthly financial reporting for managementDesign and produce a real-time key business metrics dashboard used by management to monitor operational and financial performanceServe as Finance team Project Manager for system conversion. Lead team to maintain the infrastructure, and implement ERP systemsMaintain the Financial General Ledger System, including account maintenance and the report productionCollaborate with the Chief Financial Officer in departmental decision makingProvide the Chief Financial Officer with scenarios on various financial issuesAssist the Chief Financial Officer to ensure compliance with government agencies' rules and regulationsPrepare the agency's yearly cash projection and assisting the Chief Financial Officer with the agency's cash flow decision makingLead, mentor, and develop the finance team, including hiring, performance management, and succession planning.

Supervise a staff of tenMonitor and manage the agency's Investment portfolioPlan and manage the agency's retirement plans audit and the filing of the 5500's for the retirement and fringe benefit plansManage and plan the agency's monthly and yearly closingAssist in the agency's yearly budget processDevelop and implement payroll and accounting policies and procedures to tighten internal controls.Serve as a liaison between Safe Horizon's and its employees, Financial Institutions, auditors and vendorsOversee the processing of the agency's W2's and 1099'sImplement and refine policies, systems and procedures to maximize effectivenessServe as system administrator for the Finance DepartmentProvide the Chief Financial Officer with timely reports and analysis as requiredResponsible for operational troubleshooting and problem solvingOther related responsibilities as assigned.Qualifications: (includes education and professional experience)Required:Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field requiredA minimum of five years of experience as a Controller/non-profit senior Finance professional or in an equivalent senior accounting leadership roleProficiency in financial reporting, ERP systems and data analysis tools.Knowledge of regulatory compliance and experience in financial systems and proficiency in Microsoft 365.Preferred:Advanced degree or CPA desirable.If hired, I agree to abide by all of Safe Horizon's rules and regulations, and understand that, if employed, my employment may be terminated with or without cause, and with or without notice, at any time, at the option of either the company or me.
