Animal Emergency & Specialty Hospital is growing, and we’re excited to welcome a board certified or residency trained Internal Medicine Specialist to our thriving 24 hour specialty and emergency team. With the flexibility to practice at either our Grand Rapids or Byron Center location, you’ll have the opportunity to choose the environment where you feel you can best thrive.
Over the past three years, our emergency service has experienced tremendous growth, fueled by strong relationships with referring veterinarians and continued expansion throughout the Byron Center and Grand Rapids communities. With a brand new, state of the art facility and an established specialty team, we’re ready to expand our Internal Medicine service and support the next stage of its growth.
At Animal Emergency & Specialty Hospital, you’ll do more than practice. You’ll grow, collaborate, and help shape what’s possible in veterinary medicine. You’ll work alongside experienced emergency clinicians and specialists in Critical Care, Surgery, Internal Medicine, Ophthalmology, and Cardiology in a culture built around collaboration, support, and sustainable caseloads.

In your day to day, you will:
- Manage complex internal medicine cases spanning gastrointestinal, hepatobiliary, infectious disease, endocrine, hematologic, and respiratory conditions.
- Perform and or order advanced diagnostics such as ultrasound, endoscopy, fluoroscopy, and CT.
- Coordinate with specialty and emergency teams on shared patients and transfers.
- Mentor technicians and assistants as part of daily case management.
- Help build and shape the Internal Medicine service based on your clinical interests and professional goals.
- Pursue growth opportunities in ultrasound proficiency, interventional radiology procedures, and electrochemotherapy ECT training.
- Work closely with veterinarians, technicians, and support teams to provide seamless, compassionate patient care.
- Communicate clearly and empathetically with pet owners during stressful and emotional situations.
- Contribute to a positive, team focused hospital culture built on collaboration, mentorship, and continuous learning.
What You Bring
- DVM or equivalent veterinary degree with eligibility for veterinary licensure in the state of Michigan.
- Board Certification in Internal Medicine through ACVIM or residency training in Internal Medicine.
- Strong communication skills with a compassionate, client centered approach.
- A collaborative mindset and commitment to exceptional patient care.
