Job Summary

Hourly rates starting at $120-$140 per hour. Provide preventative care, diagnosis, and treatment of pet diseases and injuries.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the safety of pets, clients, and associates by utilizing safe restraining techniques and maintaining clean, sterile treatment areas.
  • Collect patient history and keep comprehensive medical records.
  • Educate clients about preventative care, pet health needs, diagnoses, treatment, hospital services, and other related information.
  • Prescribe and administer preventative care and treat diseases and injuries of pets.
  • Communicate diagnosis and treatment plans to the veterinary medical team and clients.
  • Maintain controlled substance inventory log and comply with local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Assist veterinary assistants and licensed veterinary technicians as per state guidelines.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Working Conditions

  • Work may exceed 40 hours per week; requires weekends and evenings.
  • Must be confident around pets (dogs, cats, birds, reptiles, etc.).
  • Requires ambulatory skills to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, and lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Moderately high noise level.
  • Exposure to pets that may bite or scratch, anesthesia, radiation, biological hazards, medications, and controlled substances.
  • Minimal travel for vendor visits and associate education.

Experience, Education & Training

Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM/VMD) or equivalent required. License in good standing with applicable state veterinary board. Drug Enforcement Agency license required. Proven basic surgical skills and use of standard instruments.
