Position Purpose
The Vetco Operations Leader provides daily leadership to their team and hub. They partner with retail store partners to create an efficient and profitable operation by fostering high-quality patient care, exceptional customer service, driving revenue, and managing costs. The Vetco Operations Leader represents Petco's mission and values to partners and guests and coordinates hub operations in partnership with store support resources, cultivating a supportive and collaborative team environment.
Essential Job Functions
The essential duties and responsibilities required for this position. The Vetco Operations Leader must be able to perform all the following duties and responsibilities with or without reasonable accommodation:
- Oversees daily operation and manages all aspects of the business to meet sales and profitability projections.
- Completes and submits accounting, inventory management, and payroll paperwork accurately and in a timely manner.
- Ensures all expenses are maintained within budgeted levels.
- Establishes, models, and sustains an environment of proactive customer engagement, understanding customer needs and educating them on the best choice for their pets; trains, coaches, and supports partners to do the same.
- Leads Vetco paraprofessionals to drive operational excellence and maintain productive relationships with veterinarians to foster a positive culture and cohesive team environment.
- Acts as point person for day-to-day hub functions including scheduling, equipment and fleet maintenance, inventory control, partner and DVM scheduling, team training, and handling client concerns.
- Creates a culture that fosters growth and development, including coaching, training, and accountability of paraprofessional partners, in partnership with TVM, Vet Services Support and HRBP.
- Maintains staffing levels by recruiting, reviewing applications, interviewing, checking references, performing pre-employment background checks, hiring, and training to support the business.
- Assumes scheduling responsibilities for paraprofessional partners and maintains hub partner points per Petco punctuality and attendance policy.
- Develops quarterly, monthly, and weekly plans with the TVM, tracks results, and ensures goal attainment.
- Collaborates with Petco store partners and local VTCH teams to drive seamless partnership and customer experience.
- Maintains OSHA standards and enforces Petco policies.
- Develops business acumen to identify trends that support growth and mitigate clinic cancellations.
- Manages tasks related to selection and scheduling of veterinarians in advance of clinics in partnership with Vet Services Support.
- Partners with VTCH location management and Petco field leadership to identify opportunities and implement them.
- Participates in and presents material on clinics to store leadership partners.
- Responsible for operating a motor vehicle and transporting product, equipment, and partners to clinics.
Other Duties and Responsibilities
- Patient care always comes first.
- Address and resolve guest or hub partner issues promptly as they occur.
- Promote exceptional teamwork and commitment to shared goals across Petco.
- Collaborate with store support resources, Petco store personnel, and VTCH Team to foster a positive culture and cohesive team environment.
- Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned.
Nature of Supervision
The incumbent reports to the Territory Vetco Manager.
Planning and Problem Solving
Requires excellent planning skills to schedule hub paraprofessional partners to ensure adequate coverage while managing payroll costs. Plays a crucial role in ensuring efficient day-to-day hub operations and an optimal partner and guest experience.

Supervisory Responsibility
Manages multiple direct reports within their HUBs (Clinic Advisors, Vet Assistants, and Clinic Leads) with responsibilities including recruiting, interviewing, hiring, training, mentoring/coaching, delegation, coordinating with store support resources, and partnering with HR on discipline up to termination.
Minimum Requirements
- 1+ years in a leadership role with direct customer service experience.
- Previous experience in the veterinary field is beneficial but not required.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to make decisions, delegate tasks, and drive results with hub partners.
- Compassionate, professional demeanor in emotional or stressful situations.
- Telephone etiquette and basic computer skills.
- Team player willing to learn, offer ideas, and adapt to change.
- Change agility to navigate ambiguity in a fast-paced environment.
- Desire to learn, with flexibility and resilience; able to accept feedback.

- Current valid Driver’s License and ability to operate a motor vehicle.
- Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office).
Work Environment
Most duties occur in the hub and PCC; requires sitting, bending, kneeling, lifting up to 50 pounds, and standing for long periods; significant direct interaction with clients and their pets.
Contacts
Regular communication with clients, veterinarians, store partners, store support partners, and vendors. Candidate should positively represent Petco in the professional community and to guests.
