Duties & Responsibilities

Mission or goal of unit: The Division of Vascular Surgery seeks to provide the most advanced, patient-oriented, cost-effective and safe vascular and endovascular services. In addition, the VCU Division of Vascular Surgery seeks to provide the region's premier training environment for undergraduate and graduate students.

Our division's current clinical research includes the analysis of advanced Vascular Surgical techniques, including the treatment of complex thoracoabdominal aneurysms using fenestrated endografts, branches thoracic endografts, and physician modified endografts. In addition, the Division continues to research and publish on its novel advanced alert system for acute limb ischemia, and its novel simplified approach to the treatment of axillosubclavian venous thrombosis using delayed first rib resection and scalenectomy. The Division offers the region's most advanced and varied options for the treatment of lower extremity arterial occlusive disease using ultrasound guided plaque disruption and atherectomy excision. Although recognized as a leading center for challenging vascular surgical problems, the division seeks to expand its regional profile as the Vascular Surgery provider of choice for all patients across the region.

Chief Purpose

The position sought is for a junior or mid-level, non-tenure track faculty position in the Vascular Surgery division. The faculty member should have clinical interests that complement and/or expand on the division's existing expertise.

The sought faculty member should also support Vascular Surgery clinical outreach efforts to Pauley Heart and Vascular Center at Stony Point, VCU Community Memorial Hospital, VCU Tappahannock, Williamsburg, and Colonial Heights. Duties also include inpatient rounds, clinics, consults, operative care as primary and assistant surgeon, call responsibilities, education, and participation in quality improvement initiatives.

Responsibilities

• Teaching: The faculty member will have teaching responsibilities in all areas of Vascular Surgery, with opportunities to assist in the multidisciplinary teaching of fellows and residents in Vascular and General Surgery, Interventional Cardiology and Radiology, as well as Cardiothoracic Surgery.
• Research: Faculty member will establish clinical research projects with a record of publication in referenced journals and external funding. They are expected to develop interdisciplinary collaborations to enhance the research program at VCU.
• Service: Faculty will serve on departmental and/or university committees as necessary, as well as in a professional capacity in their field, such as reviewer, conference organizer, etc.
• Clinical: Faculty member will provide clinical care for Vascular Surgery patients at VCU Medical Center, a Level I academic teaching facility. They will be responsible for the development of an active surgical practice with the support of the Division and Department's leadership.

• Board Certification or Eligibility in Vascular Surgery
• Commitment to Clinical or Basic Science Research
• Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU

• Certification- Eligibility for RPVI (Registered Physician in Vascular Interpretation)
• Record of external funding or proposal submissions to obtain funding
